When is the big hunt to take place? Getting antsy for it yet? Got that cannon sighted?

I’ve been putting a couple hundred rounds a month through the elk rifle since I bought it. I had no idea I would enjoy early morning trips to the range as much as I do. Quite honestly, for much of the summer, if I had free time I spent it at the range instead of in the boat as I find the focus and concentration needed to be a good shot incredibly therapeutic. And the kimber is definitely a shooter… everything I hoped it would be and then some!

The season opens October 25. Guys in the hunting party are telling me conditions will dictate when we head West but I’m pushing to leave 3-4 days before the season opens so we can get out to Anaconda early, set camp, and start scouting.

Its great the gun is working out so well. And that range time is indeed therapeutic. Its good to know the gun….better to know yourself and understand what you capabilities are.

I knew you drew a ticket for elk but wasn’t sure when your time was coming. You have a while yet. Maybe some snow in the elevations by then. I hunted the west for several years until it just got to be too costly to do every year and then family life happened so…..

Keep us up-dated. Hoping you do well and excited to see some pictures. Good luck to you!

James, are you hunting 3rd rifle? I’ll be out towards Silverton for 2nd rifle which opens on the 20th. This is my first time heading out to Colorado for Elk and I’m excited as can be.

Another good aspect to being out there early is to adapt to altitude!!! It’s one thing to be in shape going out, but that extra three or four days will help immmensely!!!

    Good Luck when ya go!!!
