As I am sitting up here on Lake Kabatogama waiting to go ice fishing, it is 35 below zero, wind chills reaching -60 last night, what factor does global warming play? Would it be 40 below right now if it wasn’t for us intrusive humans? Does anyone have the equation?

    -35 ouch!
I’m staying away from the global warming deal. because IMHO there is no such thing.
But if I was up at Kap right now I would be cooking bacon and mixing a bloody! waytogo

I’m not 100% certain how serious your question is, but global warming is a global climate trend over numerous years, not a snapshot of the weather for a couple of days, weeks, or even an entire cold winter. #science

Actually the minuscule temp increase they came up with over the past 200 years is quite flawed. There was no quality control in how or when they took temperature readings. If you think about the age of the earth, and the minute amount of time we have been on the earth, it would be insane to think we can predict or cause warming or cooling trends.

Just like you can’t judge a lake after one outing, you can’t judge climate change by one morning. I always chuckle when I hear people refer to some cold morning as evidence against climate change (or conversely a warm day as evidence for climate change such as next week looking to be 35-40 in the metro)

Most long term credible studies give strong evidence towards a warming trend. I’m not sure if it means a -35 morning would have been -40, but it probably does mean overall shorter ice seasons on average, although I’m sure the length of ice seasons will vary quite a bit from one year to the next.

My biggest issue is how to stop / slow down the warming trend. I honestly don’t think we can, and I’m against the government stepping in with excessive regulations that will probably do nothing to slow down climate change and just hurt our economy.

I do agree the only credible solution probably involves bacon and a bloody toast peace

This is correct. Here’s what climate change looks like comic strip form, scroll all the way to the end.

As we’re discussing global warming, I’ll switch from a bloody to coffee w/ Baileys.

If you consider that global power consumption will increase by 50%-100% in the next 25 years, mostly in developing countries, and coal will be the major fuel source for electric production (readily available vs natural gas or nuclear), efforts by the US/Europe to curtail emissions, although important, won’t stop increase in global CO2 production.

Source: recently attended energy industry conference.

    Pass the Baileys.

I heard there was asian carp DNA discovered up there. Let us know when you see one when its 35 degrees next week.
Oh! Enjoy your time up there, cold is a state of mind not a reality.

Global warming and climate change are all pixie dust and unicorn poo. Just finish your bloody and bacon and go fishing… but yeah be careful in those temps. Nothing seems to work properly in temps like that.

Yeah, that’s the issue with it. Just as the US was getting better about emissions in the 80’s and 90’s, China and India replaced and exceeded the output that Europe and the US reduced and the statement above is just a continuation of it.

If deforestation isn’t addressed, nothing will improve. I am not talking about trees absorbing CO2 either.

But mplspug, Velveeta just introduced the 4oz block of creamy cheese!
Just think of the convenient recipes. 1 can of spam with a 4oz block of velveeta a perfect match, add a can of rotella tomatoes you got a party dip. Think how this world will change!

I am just happy to see the annual global warming thread hit us before February. It must be…

The one thing that everybody forgets is that the earth didn’t always have polar ice caps like we do now. There is evidence that Siberia used to be green. They found wooly mamouths encased in ice with green plants in their mouth. So maybe the earth has been to cold for the last 2000 years and now its normalizing.
