We needed a little rain here in Rochester but wow, I don’t think we needed 60 mph winds nor over two inches in 20 minutes. Thankfully there was no hail here at our house and the garden took it all in stride. This one sort of escalated after the evening news/weather said there was a slight chance we’d see an evening shower.

I know the Cities have gotten drenched a couple times over the last 24 hours and storms developed all around Roch and totally missed us until this shot. The lake north of town was just starting to get the crappies into the spawn so it’ll be interesting just how much the lake will rise after this. The water-shed that feeds that lake really got a soaking.

How much rain did others get?

The ditches at the shop in Rogers were rivers. Even had some small hail.

In ZF we got a couple quick showers yesterday but it was dry as a bone an hour later.
I saw that storm rolling through and went south of me…and over you it sounds.
And now the hot crap is here…90 some degrees in May, phoeey.

Ma was watching something on the tv and said how nice and blue the shy was. About two minutes later she said gee its black out there now. I came to the kitchen for something and noticed how dark it was outside so I stepped out on the front porch and was greeted with the ugliest colored clouds I think I have ever seen…green, brown and black. The storm had a super impressive shelve cloud leading the way and when that suck went overhead the wind hit. The lightning and thunder were non-stop.

The National Weather Service at the airport registered only .31 of rain. We had just over two in the gauge, so this storm was something else. Intense in one area and just so-so in others save for the wind. The leading edge of the shelf cloud was really rolling. Lots of hail hit some areas too. None here.

The clouds were ugly for sure. That brownish-orange cloud stuff makes me nervous. Right above where I was sitting a very prominent shelf cloud came over with the rolling and boiling going on and I don’t think it was more than a minute and we had horizontal rain falling. The wind was roaring as this stuff approached, really something to experience.

The Lake City area needs more rain. I’ve got a gut feeling that this Summer is going to be extremely dry. I hope I’m wrong though.

My daughter has a permanent site in the Pioneer between Kellogg and Wabasha and she got a few sprinkles from this storm. No less than three big storm cells missed us in Rochester during the day on Friday before this one made contact. Crazy a$$ed weather this year.

You really should move that gauge further away from the sprinkler.

We got about 1/2″ from a storm the 500 PM weather said wouldn’t be happening. LOTS of lightning, both cloud to cloud and cloud to ground. Had a nice wind too. Someone got hail as the temps dropped pretty good after this storm got to cooking but there was none here at home. Don’t need those white rocks bouncing on my garden plants.

In Maple Grove, we picked up 1.3″ on Thursday night, about 0.1″ on Friday afternoon, and just shy of 0.5″ Monday afternoon/evening. Our neighbor lost a good sized tree to Friday’s wind.
