I am looking for a sled for fishing and trail riding that is not to big. Anyone run a sport sled with 121″ track for ice fishing? I know a 2up is ideal but just wondering if a sport or performance sled will work just fine as long as there isn’t excessive slush. Thanks

I don’t know much about sleds, however the one thing to remember about performance type sleds is they don’t like going slow. Their motors overheat really easy.

I run a sport sled for ice fishing. It isn’t really all that ideal since the machine wants to run at WOT (wide open throttle) at all times. Mine is a 136″, however. 2006 Ski-doo Renegade 800X. I also have trouble, like Munchy said, with overheating without plenty of snowcover on the lake. If your goal is to get to the fishing spot at 85MPH, it’s great…If your goal is to get there without breaking gear, a different sled would be ideal. For me, I get by with what I have and it works alright. Just be prepared to deal with heat issues and feathering the throttle.

Hi, look for something in the 500-600 cross over sled class add some ice scratchers, be sure to get reverse, electric start is nice, EFI sleds in the 5 600 class pull start easy my son could pull start his 600 by time he was 12-13, lots on Craigslist

I have a 1994 Indy 440 Polaris that I love! Thing runs unreal. Great low power. I’ve pulled a lot of wheeled fish houses with it. I mounted a ball hitch on the back and it works great.

Then I bought a 2001 600 touring with reverse. Runs great but suspension is way softer and it likes to go WOT. These two things make it nice for trail riding and yet a poor ice sled. I’m not an expert on the new sleds so I don’t know if there’s anything out there that likes to go slow.

I have a 88 Indy 400 126 in that runs better than a lot of newer sleds. I have a Clam set up so I use their tow bar and a standard hitch from Dennis Kirk and it hauls my gear really easily. You definitely don’t need flashy or fast when hauling stuff. Just make sure you get the towing set up for whatever portable you haul (if that’s what you have) so it is secure. A rope is not good enough, if you want your gear to stay in one piece anyway.

I bought a 96 polaris indy trail 2 up this year, and it doesn’t look all that big compared to the new ones. Put a u-bolt in bumper for my Otter hitch. Why did I wait so long to get a sled! Thing has been fantastic! Electric start, reverse, great to have, and pretty lite. I don’t go very fast, got it up to 50 and had lots more on the throttle. But that was a test.I find my ideal speed with the sled on the back is 25. Fan cooled.
    Found it on craigslist.
