I’ve always been very interested in how ice anglers are able to set up their snowmobiles for ice fishing. Thought I’d share a few mods that I did with my sled. Nice to keep some of the stuff out of the otter sled.

Very nice rod rock. Sending you a PM to see if I can get some information on the design.
    Thanks.

Looks pretty nice! How study are the buckets on the excel outdoors mount? Do you think they would be able to withstand a lot of bouncing around each trip?

Very impressive! I look to be doing something very similar to my skidoo this spring for the next season.

That rod holder is made by Clam. I have one for my box on the 4-wheeler.

What brand Rod Holder is that? Also where did you get the rubber straps that go over the 5 Gal. buckets? I have 2 of the Bucket Binders on my ATV and they work great but I like the idea of rubber straps over the top.

Icenutz-He’s got the excel outdoors buddy kaddy on there. They look pretty slick, but I have no experience with them.

The Excel bucket holder is a new product on the market. I am curious to see how well it holds up as well. I’m assuming they are made to hold two 5 gallon buckets with contents so I going attempt this. I will have a chance to test it out on Lake Winnipeg the first week of March. I will update this post after that and let you know how it worked. The straps on the buckets come with the Excel hodlers. I’m assuming a couple tarps straps would work just as well.

Those clam rod holders are on sale at cabelas for $16. I cut one in half to make two 2 place holders – they are nice and small.

    Fife,

That is a cool setup. Do you have a picture of the rod holder in the second picture?

How about a closer picture of the auger carrier too? How did you attach it to the sled?
    Thanks

    My old rig.

I sold it a few years ago.

I may have a couple cargo racks stashed away somewhere at work if anyone wants one. No auger rack, just the cargo rack with a hitch.

It bolts up to the bumper hole pattern on a trail Indy (4 1/2″ on center). Mine was a 1998, but I know they work on Indy’s one year newer and a few years older.

It’s just a piece of PVC(last minute hack job)

For the record, some talented guys helped me with this build. We removed the bumper and used a pipe bender to bend the stainless to fit the contour of the sled. We mounted it using the existing bumper holes.

Thanks Fife. Ive got a 2000 Indy 500. Gonna have to take a look at how the bumper mounts but that is a nice way to do it.

Just wondering if you guys do anything to beef up your rear suspension? On my 2000 indy I have a basket mounted on rear bumper with auger rack. If I load everything up the sled bottoms out quite a bit. Ya I know if I wasn’t 240 that would help too but still?

You may have to talk to a Polaris dealer about heavier springs.

If I remember, I put heavier rear springs in my 1998 Polaris Trail Touring.

    Check Dennis Kirk too.

I’m wanting to try secure my ice auger between the pipes of the gas can rack. What do you think would work best to hold it in place? Ratchet straps, bungee cords or something else? I know a digger mount would be ideal but I’m trying other things first.

Does anyone know where I could find the shovel mount on the Digger auger carrier thats in the first picture in this thread. I have two diggers and am trying to find a way to mod them for my Eskimo Pistol Bit/Drill combo and would like to keep my normal Digger setup intact for my Strikemaster auger. Thanks!
