Belle Plaine I would guess 6 or 7. Blew about 4 last night must have been 2 or 3 more this morning.

Got 3-4 inches in Blaine, looks about the same at the shop in Ham Lake. As far as the ice goes, my drive way is terrible, had to dump two bags of kitty litter down just to get my Castle back in its spot, almost didn’t happen.
February 22, 2023 at 8:22 am #21835737” here 2 miles from Pool 4. Most graphics had us for 4-8” from this first wave.
It was nice easy stuff to plow. I wouldn’t mind if the next stuff is heavier to be honest. If we have 18” of fluff and 40mph winds, I’ll be plowing around the clock to keep things somewhat open.
February 22, 2023 at 8:28 am #2183575Pretty sure I could never be a serious meteorologist… all you guys talking about how many inches you got…

I really have no idea what I got in rural Goodhue county but I plowed maybe 2 inches last night to do what I could before bed, and there were some drifts 3 or more feet high this morning on the gravel roads to my place that don’t get plowed very often. If we do get a foot or more today/tonight the drifts are gonna be insane. Couple spots as well where the gravel roads are flanked by empty corn fields where the ditches are shallow and fill up fast, so in whiteout conditions I usually drive by estimating I’m right in the middle of the telephone poles flanking the road.

We tend to exaggerate too.
February 22, 2023 at 8:33 am #2183582Still digging out in Woodbury. It was almost to the top of my feet!!!!!!!!!!!
February 22, 2023 at 8:38 am #2183584Need to revise my total in East Bethel. After clearing off the rink we got at least 5”. The weatherman blew it again.
RiverratPosts: 1516February 22, 2023 at 8:48 am #2183588So did the Hashbrown thread cause a major rush on potatos in metro grocery stores or what? I saw alot of videos of bare produce shelves down there. I expect to see great things come from this storm.
February 22, 2023 at 8:50 am #2183589Im just glad they closed schools so the kids could help their families dig out.

Can I change my answer then

Apparently, even Kwik Trips shelves were bare last night. Do people not keep food in their homes? In a worst case scenario we could probably go a month or two without groceries.
I’d say we got about 5″ in Carver, and the roads were fine on the way to work. Kind of nice with no one out and about.
BrittmanPosts: 1940February 22, 2023 at 8:52 am #2183593Schools and colleges shut down today (Metro Area) should be ashamed. While e-learning certainly can be attempted (impact on students suggests lowering learning and potential) … the impact on parents who then had to stay home from work is real.
Oh well, we have a surplus … let’s party.

They were calling for 4 to 7 seems like they nailed it to me.
February 22, 2023 at 8:58 am #2183597so..when they do this E-learning does that mean they dont need to do makeup days?? i have no kids in school so i have no idea? i’ve heard from teachers that hate it.
i have 2 step grandkids that are home schooled and think thats just wrong….especially for the excuses that was given. but i’m an older feller that wouldnt think of it.
February 22, 2023 at 9:04 am #2183598No makeup days for e-learning. I believe ours is set up where the kids need to check in first thing and the rest of the day is a free for all unless a teacher schedules something. We’re lucky since the FW works from home and the boys are older.
February 22, 2023 at 9:05 am #2183601If they e learn it should not require a make up day to my knowledge. Agree it is a shame to have the kids stay home today, tomorrow that might be a different story. I can’t believe how quick they are to close school nowadays.

Its the weather terrorists striking fear and doom into people, so there is a run on groceries, gas, liquor stores, etc. Remember when people were hoarding toilet paper? If you just go out and buy what you need for a normal week, there will be plenty for everyone. Its the panic buyers that stock up for the apocalypse.

Agree, CaptainMusky. Still on track to get 8″-13 tonight for widespread storm totals of 14″-18″ which is right on track for the forecast I’ve seen? This was the appetizer before the main course. Unfortunately people see one person claim 26″ is possible and then assume that will hit there house.

no makeup days for e-learning. Sartell started the year without the opportunity to do e-learning for snow days. They had to make up 2 days already this year. Thankfully they voted it in back in January and now are doing it. The other districts in this area had it from the get go not sure what Sartell was thinking but that leadership group there is a mess.

Blame the idiots that are quick to panic, scream, threaten to sue, etc. every time the slightest hiccups happen with a school. We have people lined up locally to bi*** about anything from playing time in sports to the design of a new gym floor, or the grade kids get on a paper. Districts are just covering themselves.
The state statue caps the number of E-Learning Days at 5 per school year. After that point E-Learning cannot be required if school is canceled, and it is up to the board to be sure the numbers of service days are met. They may vote to then forgive additional days off if they have extra built in, or tack on to the end of the school year.
February 22, 2023 at 9:25 am #2183615Certainly was not blaming the schools Bucky, thanks for the explanation of what is happening on there end. A lot of parents suck and have no right to cry to the schools
February 22, 2023 at 9:44 am #2183626Our school shut down for 5″ of snow….
My ’78 Volkswagon Rabbit looked exactly like that after a winter storm in Hurley when I played B ball at Gogebic CC back in ’85-86. It was sitting on a side street just off of Silver Street.
Somewhere I’ve got a polaroid picture of myself standing next to my car in my now In-laws driveway in Iron Belt. It was spring break, and I had shorts, tennis shoes and a hawaiiian shirt on, and the snow bank/wall behind me was probably 12′ tall.February 22, 2023 at 9:53 am #2183631Solid 5″, possible 6″ from Hager City to River Falls. Traffic was light and all the roads were plowed, it was easy driving…well except for one fella that must of been accelerating up a hill with a turn in it. He was too far in the ditch for me to lend a hand.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22539February 22, 2023 at 10:00 am #2183636Yep getting windy here. No wind or very little on the drive in at 7 but its cooking pretty good now. Its a beautiful day otherwise.

My forecast said 2-4. They were way off one again. I wish I could be wrong at my job 80% of the time and still keep it./s
They’re calling it a category 5 storm. Winter storm Olive. Sounds terrifying.

The only other job that I can think of where they get paid so handsomely to lie on a daily basis is being a politician.
February 22, 2023 at 10:11 am #2183643I snowblow paths in the backyard for my dogs. With the rain they are all ice. I’ve been wearing these:
What brand are those?
