Seems like they are trending this further South with each run.

That’d be great. Do today’s totals count? I was planning on putting some outside stuff away today and taking after some spots that are still icy because I thought today would be the only day without snow…. and there’s barely any visibility outside…

Supposed to drive my Dad and Uncle to the airport on Wed afternoon. That should be interesting. My son also has a playoff game for Hockey on Wed night in Edina. They almost never cancel Hockey, we’ll see how this goes.

I drive all over the metro every day. You will be just fine.

I’m not worried about the metro itself, I live about an hour south in the sticks and I have to drive further out to pick up my dad- that’s all country roads. Might be tough sledding.

I am in the same boat only north a hour . We will all be just fine. Just drive slow and be smart. Driving on the snowy roads is pretty easy. Just leave early and expect every one else to be as dumb as hell

I love driving on bad roads. Im one of those guys that will be disappointed if the local plow guys keep up. I will go out of my way to run every errand possible AND eat out just to drive, if the roads get deep this week. Im not so excited about snow removal at the cabin.

I’ve never seen yellow on his maps either except for maybe the lake effect belts.

Even the local news had some newer looking colors. If this hits like predicted it is going to get ugly. Nothing we have not seen before, just ugly none the less.

Mike your not the only one who likes driving in the deep snow. Brings the kid out in me.

The only time driving on snow sucks (for me) is when a person can’t see where the road it or when a grader takes a corner too sharp and you think your on the road only to find out your passenger side pick up door is up to the windows in snow.

Count me in, with three exceptions. Ice, icy roads always suck. Blowing snow as in white outs. No good no matter what. Lastly, other people. If people drove with their heads on straight and left plenty of room we’d be good.

They did that poop on my dads curvy road. Winged way out over the ditches. It gobbled up lots of cars in a few days.

I love driving in the snow but just dont trust others. I always keep my trailer hitch on my truck just incase some car decides to rear end me. Saved my brother in-law’s truck from some damage when he got rear ended once. The car did not fair so well..

The last time we got more than 24″ that I can remember was the Halloween storm in 1991. I remember opening my garage door, and only seeing daylight in both top corners. I was snowed in for 2 days in Blaine. My parents in Ham Lake were still snowed in a day and a half later. I know two guys that rode their snowmobiles down 35W and took a picture in front of the entrance to the IDS in Minneapolis. I hope it isn’t that bad and reports are wrong, but John Dee is normally as good as it gets. My old butt is going to get pretty tired trying to keep up with plowing if we end up getting over 20″. Just last week I was thinking I hope I get a couple more weeks of snowmobiling in this year. I guess that should work out. sad

That night a buddy and his girlfriend picked me up in a Dodge Daytona and we made it back to his place for the night. Got stuck a couple times on the way over, only a few miles away. Coon Rapids

I believe this is actually illegal but I know a ton of people do it.

Q: I was wondering if it is illegal to have the ball hitch in the receiver of my truck if I am not pulling any trailers at that time? Also is it illegal to have more than one ball on my bumper?

A: No, it is not illegal to have a ball hitch in the receiver of a truck when not pulling a trailer at that time. It is not illegal to have more than one ball hitch on the bumper. But with that being said, you need to be aware that multiple ball hitches on the bumper could obstruct the rear license plate.
According to Minnesota State Statute 169.79 Subd. 7: “All plates must be (1) securely fastened so as to prevent them from swinging, (2) displayed horizontally with the identifying numbers and letters facing outward from the vehicle, and (3) mounted in the upright position. The person driving the motor vehicle shall keep the plate legible and unobstructed and free from grease, dust, or other blurring material so that the lettering is plainly visible at all times. It is unlawful to cover any assigned letters and numbers or the name of the state of origin of a license plate with any material whatever, including any clear or colorless material that affects the plate’s visibility or reflectivity.”
The ball hitch needs to be a device approved by the commissioner of public safety. The ball hitch must be of sufficient strength to control a trailer. A ball hitch attached to the receiver can have the receiver detached and removed when not in use, especially if it is causing an obstruction.

I did some searching because the Halloween 91 blizzard was the first time I had seen snow here as a kid. We had previously moved from the Bay Area.

These are the three biggest snowfall events since then (Twin Cities):
    Dec 10-11, 2010 : 17.1 inches (Metrodome roof collapse)
    April 13-16, 2018: 15.8 inches (spring blizzard)
January 2-5, 2023: 15.1 inches (earlier this winter!)

If you guys get 20 inches of snow and 40 mph winds, you might end up reconsidering how much you love driving in snow.

Yeah that wind is going to create chaos in a hurry. Saw videos of some of the crashes in the cities this morning with only a little snow. You guys sure dont know how to drive down there

Yeah it’s probably enjoyable in the cities and suburbia. They can have that.

Where we are at it won’t matter what you enjoy driving in…20” of snow with 40mph winds and you aren’t going on any roads if they pull the plows. 5’ drifts are real and stop any vehicle.

I’ll believe the forecasted 20” of snow here when I see it. I’m guessing more in the 12-15” range

I hope it ends up like the last blizzard they hyped the crap out of around christmas. That was a laugher.
