I’ve been seeing lately that at least 4-8 inches of snow is expected Friday into Saturday, but I can’t seem to find anything on when that snow might start. I had thought about getting out Friday afternoon/evening after work for that period right around dark, just wondering if anyone had heard a timeframe for when the latest snowfall will start.

Snow Storm Timing this Friday

When it comes to weather forecasts, Friday is a long ways off. Yesterday morning several different sources were predicting a couple of inches of snow for last night. It never happened here, not a single flake of snow. That was a prediction for an event later on the same day.
Right now there’s a low pressure center in Oregon or someplace on the west coast. If and when it gets here, we might get snow. The exact TIME it gets here is unknown. The exact PATH it will take is also unknown. A slight change one way or the other can make big difference in what happens.
I’d sure like to know myself when this might happen. Last weekend we had to blow off a trip to Mankato to celebrate a Grandson’s birthday because of the snow and poor road conditions. If that happens two weekends in a row

Off topic, but thought I’d comment on the coincidence? Last weekend we too had a Grandsons birthday to celebrate down in Madison, WI. We made it down there and planned to come back Sunday. We ended up coming back Monday because of the snow and poor road conditions.
Anyway, predicting the weather? Plan on doing what your intention is, and then you (or the weather) can decide when that day comes!December 13, 2016 at 9:56 am #1656794When it comes to weather forecasts, Friday is a long ways off. Totally agree. Until the weather forecasters can actually see what’s coming, the 5-7 day forecasts are just guesses. Even when they can see it coming, they can’t predict something like snowfall or rain amounts with any accuracy.
The most reliable forecast you’ll get won’t be available until Thursday night.

Me too. I like to think we all do it. At least that is what I say when talking myself.
December 13, 2016 at 11:32 am #1656827I think old Bud Kraehling could predict with better accuracy better than the people with all of today’s technology.
December 13, 2016 at 11:48 am #1656833I’ve never had snow prevent me from getting on the ice. Worst case, i just stay close to home.

It seems the news has to hype this stuff up so you will want to watch all week.

I would guess they were wrong depending on what part of the metro you are in. I ran into snow around St Francis and had 1-2″ at home last night.

Or this guy? For those of you who were living around the metro early 1970’s would never forget this guy…Barry ZeVan “the weatherman”. And the weather is already better!

Exactly…I was watching Weather Underground’s forecasts specifically for South St. Paul. A little wiggle in the atmosphere and we ended up with no snow at all as it went North of the cities.
Yesterday WU was predicting an 80% chance that South St.Paul would see 5-8 inches of snow on Friday. Today it’s a 30% chance that we see less than one inch. Which strikes me as a high tech, computerized version of shrugging your shoulders and saying “I have no idea”.
