Snow and Ice conditions

    Hi Guys,

    Some buddies and I have planned a trip for the Isabella/Finland/Ely area this month. I was just wondering what the ice conditions of some of the smaller lakes are like as well as the trail conditions for ATV travel. We wanted to try trout for the first time and do some Walleye fishing as well. Just wondering what conditions to prepare for.

    Ice conditions are great. South shores hold the most snowpack from drifting. Make sure any trails you use are legal to wheelers.

    Thanks Ben! I only see one iffy spot on one of the perspective lakes on our list. I think I might call the dnr in that area for a little more info about trails joining forest roads. It should be an adventure at least. We want to try some less pressured lakes and try trout through the ice for the first time.

    Call the USFS instead, I don’t believe they are managed by the DNR. 218-365-7600
