The local weather just reported near 10″ here but I know I blew at least that 10″. 12 miles south of Roch the nat’l weather service sais 5 something inches but that government worker doing the measuring so its kinda like counting wolves…..double the number and you’re closer to the truth.

Just heard Savage pulled their plows until 2am.

    Pulled their plows…? shock

Too much snow for their plows? Isn’t this kind of weather what plows are for?

Yeah, there are a lot of people pi$$ed off about it. They claim it’s because of poor visibility. However I and about 5000 other people were able to drive just fine…except for the low ground clearance cars stuck in the snow. I personally helped 6 vehicles get unstuck and saw many many more.

Interesting observation. I plow snow on the side for some “fun money” and I’d wager that the higher the ground clearance (4×4 trucks, large SUVs), the more likely to be in the ditch. I help out twice as many trucks as I do FWD cars that are stuck. It seems the truck drivers drive carelessly and don’t realize that 4WD isn’t something that offsets poor driving habits.

I saw no one in the ditch, it was all just too much snow on the road and high-centering the low ground clearance cars and “wheel chocking” the tires so they wouldn’t roll. My Colorado took the snow just fine.

I finally went out to deal with it after my wife got home from her 30min now 2hr commute. Must have blown a bit less than a foot, and Mr. Plow was kind enough to come halfway through and dump over a 2′ wall of chunks along the end. Gave my little 21″ honda a workout – thank god for the old 2 strokes.

Went to get more non oxy around 7pm because there was already more than another inch down when I finished. It was a mess. Snow on the roads, snow on the highways, sedans bottomed out everywhere.

Doesn’t seem like a crazy storm as much as it feels like it has been a long time since we had a decent snow.

We easily have a foot in Rosemount and still snowing.

Part of it is logistics. There are a limited number of plow drivers and they can not work around the clock. They usually plow as much as possible and then take a break until the early morning hours when there is less traffic and can plow more efficiently to clean the streets

There are kids still stuck at school in St. Paul, waiting for buses. Like 5 hours late? This seems crazy.

Something must be going on – it hasn’t snowed here in 12hrs and they are shutting down the schools.

It always amazes me how night and day the roads are between the St Croix. Heading in this morning I could go 60 mph on hwy 8 if I wanted. Cross at Taylors Falls and the roads are horse sh*t; glazed over in ice/snow and nothing really plowed off of the highway.

I blame the drugged up governor over there.

What? No blaming the meteorologists? Sounds like they nailed it this time.

Which is why I laughed when I saw they closed the schools there. Seriously Eagan? Cancelled due to “predicted severe weather?” rotflol I get that it’s going to be snowing at dismissal time, but you have all day to get the plows in position, right?

Care to retract the statement? rotflol wink

Lots of school buses are RWD, there were areas of the state that didn’t get hit nearly as hard and there were stranded buses with kids on them for over 5 hours. They 100% made the right call.

I saw ZERO 4×4 trucks in ditches. I usually see ZERO 4×4 trucks in ditches during snow storms. I did see several cars and pseudo suv’s in ditches.

Came across a lady in a Taurus stuck on the shoulder on my way home, stopped to offer to push or pull her out. And she wouldn’t roll down her window to talk to me, car was still there this morning. Her loss, but made me shake my head if we are so far gone as a society.

I gotta say I looked out the window this morning and smiled. It resembled the state I grew up in for the first time in a while. Bring on the snow I say. We are Minnesotans

    You’re totally right.

I was just giving you crap, all in good fun.

I’m coming to realize how fortunate I am to work outside of the metro. Roads were bad, but with not many people, it went pretty smooth. After hearing stories of a few of my buddies who work out of the St. Paul xcel office, I do not envy them…30 minutes to get 1 block in DT St. Paul. shock

It’s still early. I am guessing now it’s they didn’t warn enough!

My favorite was when severe weather is happening in the 7 county metro area and they are breaking into programming and people were whining because they never even got a drop of rain. It’s as if people don’t understand broadcast television reach or geography.

Al Roker is the best at that. He is quick to point out 65 million people are in the path of this 900 mile snow storm. And now we will send it to our affiliates for your local weather. It’s like i’m suppose to be impressed that 65 million people are getting snow.

I’m looking at 10” here as well and it’s still coming down hard. Just heard Savage pulled their plows until 2am.

They still haven’t plowed our neighborhood. It is usually plowed by 7am.
I logged into work this morning expecting them to plow before 8am, then I’d finish clearing the drive and head into the office.

It’s afternoon and I threw in the towel hours ago regarding driving into work today. I’m still working from home waiting for Mr Plow to move the foot of snow from the street onto my driveway.
