All this snow blowing is Getting old already and we have lots of winter remaining. Got home last night and was planning on waiting till the snow ended to fire up the snowblower again. Got a Text from the neighbor down the road asking if I would be willing to help with the Ice rink on the pond again. Got geared up and headed down. He had another buddy with a 4 wheeler with a plow show up as well, so that made this time much easier than last time. The plow pushed the snow to the edge and I brew it away. Worked out well. My wife said I should probably clean around the fire hydrant since it is in our yard. Decided to work on that. Could not even see it. It has a marker flag that extends 2-3 ft above it. Could only see about 10″ of the marker. Got it about half cleared and had to move on to other driveways and get to work. Will have to finish it up when I get home tonight. All this snow is hard on a old, Fat, out of shape old man.
My son decided to not take my advice and clean his truck off last night so it would be easier in the morning then was pissed this morning when there was nearly 2 feet of snow on it since its been sitting for a week and had to clean it off before school. Life lessons young man!

They always seem to have to learn the hard way !!!! I really wish they would sometimes listen to their old man !!! Then again we were probably the same when we were their age.

I always tell them that the older they get the wiser I become. It takes them learning moments like this morning to understand that I have been there and done that already.
So with all the snow, and especially on my roof is it a good idea to get it off the roofs ?
I usually do it but want other opinions.
Yes…not all of it. And please don’t get on a ladder to do it, but if you can reach the edges to make damning minimal it will help. Seeing some bad damns on my neighbors already.

hell I’m planning on getting up on the roof!!
I’ve gone on my roof to remove snow before. Be very careful though. If you have a steep incline up there, probably not a good idea.
Glenn! Glenn! Don’t do it. Not necessary. Just clean the bottom edges and around any venta out the roof. Not worth risking injury.
I have enough snow around the majority of my house you could jump off the roof intentionally and land on your back and it’d be a nice soft landing.
Being on the lake my roof usually blows off nicely and I don’t have ice dam issues. Bad news is the snow drifts around the house, sidewalks and dog kennel are monsters.

yea i set up a ladder yesterday……..its way to slippery up there. not gonna happen!!!! i gotz fish and wild game with my name on it yet!!!!!!!
i’ll just get what i can and call it good enough with the snow rake!!!!!
When I got home from work Wednesday the neighbor had plowed (with a 4-wheeler) a path through my driveway so I was able to just barely get in my driveway (long driveway that loops around). Went out later to blow snow (side-by-side currently in the shop getting the winch repaired; great timing) and the driveway by our shed was completely covered like an avalanche had fallen. I literally had no idea where all this snow had appeared from…until I looked at my now-cleared-off shed roof. Maybe driving into the yard caused some vibrations or something, but after getting home all those feet of snow on my shed roof came down like an avalanche onto my driveway.
