Curious as to what size snaps you guys are using when fishing with spoons, #4 Rippin’ Raps, flash champ spoons, and jigging raps. I know the answer may depend on the size but I fish mostly between 1/16-1/8 oz spoons and the smaller size raps. Trying to order some online but the choice of sizes has me confused. Also, what do you recommend between these two options, or is there something else you use entirely? Thanks!

Looks like great idea. Can these be used with the smallest jigs? I spend all my daylight yesterday try to tie a jig on. Not going to happen this winter but I’m not ready to stop fishing yet.
December 22, 2015 at 11:31 am #1586523I’ll defer to the more experienced fella’s on here, but in my opinion and experience when dealing with jigs, regardless of size, I always tie direct. I don’t want to sacrifice the action by using a snap. I guess that’s why I’ve purchased so many TUCR’s so I don’t have to re-tie!
December 22, 2015 at 11:32 am #1586524I don’t use them. I tie directly to jig using a polymer knot. I can do it pretty quick. I have two jigging rods so I am changing less often.
December 22, 2015 at 12:47 pm #1586550I bought some fast snaps off Amazon and figured the small would be best, but they are too small in my opinion. I’m guessing medium would work best.
I would never use these for jigs, but for spoons or jigging minnow type baits they are the cats meow.
Trappers Landing LodgePosts: 200December 22, 2015 at 1:25 pm #1586561I use just a regular snap when I connect my jigging spoons and jigging raps to my line. I usually get a size 00 to 1 maybe 2. I know the VMC duolock is the snap I use. I have used them for walleyes on Mille Lacs, Leech, on smaller lakes and I do not think the fish care. Others may say they do but its easy to change lures or colors and keeps your hands a little warmer. I do not use them on the panfish jigs or trout jigs just tie those.
December 22, 2015 at 1:35 pm #1586565X2 to what Josh posted on duolock snaps. I also use a size #1 for spoons, rattling spoons, Rippin Raps and other similar types of lures.
When it comes to jigs, I always tie direct.

Exactly what I do. I don’t use the snaps when using horizontal jigs because you cant guarantee that the jig will present as it should. I use the snaps with the jigging raps and hardbaits and spoons (anything vertical). No retying needed.
December 22, 2015 at 3:14 pm #1586586Try these Northland Tackle Quick snaps

They’re the best in my opinion. A little easier to connect and disconnect than the other designs, especially with cold fingers…

I use #1 or #2 Duo Lock snaps on lures and tie direct on jigs.
December 22, 2015 at 9:03 pm #1586654The should make Duo lock’s in all different colors. I personally would like to see a red one.
December 23, 2015 at 1:16 am #1586674For most spoons and jigging raps I like a fast snap. They are the easiest to use with cold hands and actually improve action on most lures. Less hardware than a crosslock style as well. However for pimples and rippin raps where there is alot of metal around the eye or if there is a split ring you are better off tying direct or using a crosslock snap.
December 23, 2015 at 11:55 am #1586794A fly fishing snap is the way to go. I mainly tie direct, but when I use a snap its fly fishing snap.
December 23, 2015 at 12:19 pm #1586804I have tried the Fast-Snaps-I’ve had heavier stuff come off…
I like the Duolocks- but hard for old fingers sometimes…especially smaller ones…
I found Fastach Clips and they seem to work the best for me…even the smaller sizes…
