I’ve been against these since they came out since they seem like they make it hard to see the flames. But if having one means I can get my wife to hang around one more since there is less smoke, then it might be worth it.

I don’t see the point in them but good luck with your wife.

We have a solo stove…I like it because you don’t smell like a campfire. We can use it for a couple hours in the evening and don’t have to wash our clothes. My wife wouldn’t use our old fire pit because of the smell.

You get the flames when you first start it. Once it gets going the flames are mainly contained. They burn hot and fast so be prepared to go through the wood with them.

I’d recommend one…they have gotten pretty inexpensive and are always on sale so it’s worth a shot.

Also have a Solo and I like it for exactly the same reasons. Once they get hot, there is very little smoke smell.

One thing I have noticed is because the steel sides reflect heat, they are not as warm to sit around. They don’t throw radiant heat sideways off the red hot coals. So that limits when Mrs Grouse wants a fire.

We did grill a big bone-in ribeye on a solo stove for fishing opener last year. And it did work quite well. So there is that benefit also.

Someone had to make a knock off to the perforated washing machine drum . Why didn’t I think of that ! Ha

Solo stove. I like it. Only time I smelled like smoke was when I used some wood that wasn’t dry.
There are a lot of knock-offs out there now.

Got a Solo Stove last year. Major game changer. Got the biggest one they make. Fires are very easy to start and maintain. We didn’t use our old fire pit once last year. We have our Solo Stove under our outdoor shelter so even if it’s raining we can have a nice fire. Lots of accessories available but all are overpriced of course.

I have the bonfire model, I was in the what’s the point of them, and thought they were silly. Now I love mine, use it ice fishing, camping, it’s nice when it’s to windy to have a fire in a normal fire pit. I picked up the heat deflector for it, works pretty good. Way over priced.imo but all in all worth it.
