Smelt Run

    Anyone know if the smelt are running in Ashland or Superior yet? This should be a good weekend if it’s not over yet.

    They started last weekend from what I heard. Been running pretty good most nights, but not last night due to the wind.

    Was on superior Friday night and was able to get my 6 gal needed for the year. It was an amazing time! It is also a young mans sport. Pulling nets is starting to beat an old man up! The 3am get home time is just as painful….

    I miss eating them so bad. Ate them yearly all through my childhood and now havent had access to one in over 30 years. bawling

    Sounded like this weekend was probably the end of it for any mass quantities… Had friends up who did well early last week… Also had other friends up this weekend to fish for coho and brown trout. After they finished they talked with the good folks at Angler’s All about the smelt who told them with the cold front, unpredictable winds, snow and other weather related goodies that the bulk of the run was probably over after this weekend. Water temps are in the low 40’s at best and fishing buddy told me he had 38 in areas ‘tween the islands and Houghton Point.
