Tim I try to get to Green Bay when the water gets to 60 degrees or less. Rigging with 5 to 7 inch suckers or chubs. It can be fantastic!

Most guys that time of year live bait rig sucker minnows. There is no doubt that it will probably work the very best for catching the most and biggest fish.

If you’re wanting to catch them on artificial presentations, football jigs rigged with a craw or creature bait works pretty good. Drop shots with a senko or type of plastic worm / leech can be pretty deadly.

The St. Croix river has a fantastic SMB jigging rap bite in mid-late Oct.

Find rock transition areas in 15-20 feet of water rigging suckers. Plastics like Moxies also work in these areas.

    A few from last October.

I never rig live bait. They crush cranks and jigs and all sorts. Find rocks usually means find fish

It’s been my experience this year that catching SMB on hot dogs would be easier than catching suckers at a bait shop.

Love the river in the fall. We do well using some smaller musky baits Mini Hearthrob or larger tube jigs have done great for us. Put a lot of fish in the boat. Found when they eat they liked them bigger September October time for us.

I just got back from mille lacs. Malmo had plenty of sucker minnows. Bought 2 dozen on saturday and 2 dozen sunday. No bad price either.

When in GB live bait will out fish any artificial 4 to 1 in the fall. Also average bigger fish.
Have tried tubes, craws, senkos, swim baits, cranks, etc.
At 45 to 55 degree water those fish want meat if possible.
At least where I find them.
