Smallies and wallies

This is the time of year when you can get smallmouth bass action when targeting them, and target walleyes and do well too – how great is that?? In roughly a month to three weeks the walleyes will slowly drop off in action. But right now you can do well on both smallies and wallies.

The smallmouth bass are hitting soft plastics ( I did have a tub of a largemouth take a buzz bait down – lost him…) We did best on wacky worms and jerk baits. Tubes not so much, that is unusual.

Walleye – from 12 to 24 fow – crawlers and leeches. I have been doing best on the shallow range of this depth, but I know others are getting fish in the deep water. Reports are good one day and slower the next , but guys are catching white tips. You can still put together a nice box last Saturday we had ten legals before 1pm. Including two too large to keep – one is pictured here.

    Fun times on the Croix.

I saw a black alumacraft guide boat with a white johnson running up on plane through the Afton no wake zone on Tuesday morning. Anyone know what’s up with that?

    Evan,

I’ve heard of fishing “memories” but never fishing into the future… Let me know when you’re there and if they’re biting! )

    Thanks for the laugh.

After reading this report it didn’t take long for me to decide where I was going to spend the day. Spent this beautiful day fishing the Kinni area with good success finding willing smallmouth tight to rock structure. They seemed to key in on motor oil salt and pepper tubes fished slow with a 1/8 jig. I was having so much fun I didn’t fish for walleyes but a couple of anglers I talked to were catching nice fish on crawler rigs between 15 and 21 feet of water.

My fav lake to fish the future is Lake Crystal Ball )

BTW Turk, I believe you had some co workers of mine out the other week, Mike and Matt. They said they had a great time so nice work!

Good to see you getting some big fish Turk. My results lately have been good on the the catching, but struggling to find those legals. More 12-14″ walleyes than I can count in the last 3 weeks. But I guess that means the future is bright. I had some good smallie action Wednesday night on craw colored tubes in the weeds.
