Some lakes that are shallow have no bite at all ice time. I guess this one does, just wondering if these lakes turn off at some point in the winter. Lake has perch I guess too.
    Thanks

Small, shallow lakes are prone to winterkill every year. I don’t know if this you speak of experienced it last year or not. It occurs when there’s a long winter with snow buildup in lakes that are relatively shallow. They’ve added bubblers/aerators to some of these lakes to avoid it.

Fish definitely lower their metabolism, and lower oxygen levels later in the ice season will lower their activities further, but I can’t believe fish just shut off.

Even catfish whos metabolism lowers to a miniscule amount can still be caught in cold water.

I have been on lakes right after ice out on winter kill years, sad. Small lakes by Superior can be 10ft deep and never winterkill, DNR will get as many as 30 per net but they are almost impossible to catch threw the ice.
