small game hunting during deer hunting season

    A question came up at deer camp that needs to be settled no one seems to know the correct answer. Can a person who does NOT have a deer tag hunt small game ie. squirrels with a .22 during the deer season as long as they are wearing blaze orange, etc.. I say they can but other say no..answers

    September 15-February 28 is the season. Yes, they can. Must follow all blaze orange laws regarding open firearm deer season if hunting in an area where guns are legal to be used, not just small game requirements. As annoying as it can be on public land, there is nothing wrong with it.

    Yes, you can hunt small game with a .22 during deer season as ME says.

    I would, however, avoid doing anything that would call into question which firearm you are using for what. For example, I wouldn’t try having a .22 in your deer stand along with your regular rifle so that you can “hunt your way back to the camp”. Keep the 2 activities totally separate.

    Can’t legally mix the two anyway Grouse. Its either or.
