I really enjoy the show, you guys are great at what you do. Would love to see a slip bobber walleye segment on open water, heck even on the ice. Sorry in advance if you have already recorded a video in past seasons using this technique, but if so i failed to locate it.

No, we’ve never done a slip bobber show. We don’t start our next broadcast season until mid-November so in the short-term we could do a short video on it some time this summer if a good bite opportunity presents itself. Thanks for tuning in and for offering up a show/video suggestion.

Yea no rush James! I along with many other grew up using slip bobbers to catch walleyes. For a long time it was the only way I fished. Night Fishing with lighted bobbers is some of the best memories I have as a kid. Since I’ve tuned into this show i have really expanded my horizon with all the techniques you share. I think you would put on a great show over a hot bite using this technique and id look forward to seeing it in the future. Keep up the great work!

+1 to this request, grew up the same way. My dad had the boat and all the cousins would be at the cabin and the only realistic way to fish with, my dad, grandpa and 4 kids in a boat was to slip bobber, any kind of rigging was nothing more then a mess. Grandpa was the GPS – triangulating our spot from various shoreline sights, heck my dad had nothing more then an old Lowrance brown box flasher for a depth finder, but we always caught and released more walleyes then I could even imagine now days, granted there was a meal on the stringer. Oh the memories!!!

I agree on it making a great show. In addition to live bait rigs, slipp’n also makes it a great way to control depth in the column with jigs and is often over-looked. Especially on humps/rock bars that get covered in slime in mid/late summer. The fish don’t hang in the slime but will cruise over it.

Definitely a show on slip-bobber rigging and tactics. Here in Colorado lately, it’s been my fall back method to bringing in fish, walleyes and perch as well; especially when the lakes warm up and the bite gets more challenging.

Slip bobbering is something we started doing when my dad would come up to the cabin for some good fishing. Especially the night bite, we use the pontoon and anchor both ends. Rigging and jigging just don’t work that well anymore for him, we can cover a a lot of different depths, less chance of dad falling, just an overall great option.
I’d like to get him a nice rod for this type of fishing. I really don’t have a “bobber specific” rod. I’m guessing something in the 7’6″ M-ML?
    Thanks for any tips.

I run mostly ML for slip bobbers. Most common actions to find are fast or X-fast, though I like medium/fast. Allows you to load the rod and lob it without ripp’n your bait off. I’m a huge fan of the micro guides and the sensitivity that comes with the lighter rods. slip knots will go through most, but a close fit. Standard guides will suite you better

The more I think about it this might be a good rod for me to build.

    Scott,

I have 3 slip bobber rods from 7’6″ to 9′ and all in that M or ML range. Actually my favorite is a 8′ with a medium fast… I have not spent much on the rod or reel as I feel it doesnt take much for me to use a bobber, decent casting ability and an ok drag.

You could sure try one or even all 3 of my rods.
