Sled Trailer Options

    Hey guys-

Dumb question: is anyone using an 8′ trailer to pull a ~10′ snowmobile? I’ve got a 5×8 open utility trailer with a drop down gate that I pull my ATV on, and am wanting to pick up a snowmobile for this season (last year’s slush severely limited how much/where I was able to get out with just the ATV). Most of the sleds I’m looking at are 120-125″ overall length which is obviously more than my 96″ trailer… my thought is that I’d pull all the way forward so the skis stick out the front & hopefully that’d give me enough room to get the gate closed on the back. Short of holding a tape measure up to every potential sled in person, I can’t seem to find any info that’d help. Anyone using a setup like that already?

Seems pretty small. I use a 6×12 trailer for my sled and with a otter sled beside the snowmobile it’s a tight fit. I don’t think an 8 foot trailer would work that good. You need convenience and ease or it becomes a hassle.

I use to haul my 153″ m series cat in the back of my 6′”6 chevy. Never had a issue. If it is a tilt trailer you might have one though

As long as you can get enough tongue weight on the trailer and flag anything sticking out the back, it should work.

Tongue weight should be good (it’d be as far forward as possible). I’m just worried I won’t be able to get it far enough forward to close the gate/ramp behind it

What will happen when you turn the truck? Will you hit the truck with a ski?

I just picked up a 1996 Vmax 600 and brought it home in my 5×8 utility trailer. Stick out about a foot off the back, but weigh dist. is forard of the axle. That’s the most important consideration, keeping the weight forward or above the axle, never behind it.
