Sled modification for the road

I live a few blocks away from access to the lake. I have a 4 wheeler that a I use to pull my Eskimo 2-man flipover. I’m looking for ideas on how to pull the sled on the road for the few blocks to the lake so I don’t have to load it all in to my truck and trailer – just be able to buzz down for some quick fishing in the evenings. It’d have to be something I can pop on for the quick drive down there and then pop off once I got to the lake. I’ve seen some great mods posted in here, so I figured I’d solicit some input.

I live around the same distance as you from a lake that I fish and run into times when the snow melts off the road. I bought 2 sets of snowmobile runners with carbides and put them over top of the otter high fax kit on my otter cabin. I only put them on the outside runners and not in the centre. I cut the one set down so they run the entire length of my tub and bent them a bit so they contour perfectly to the front of the tub. As an added bones the hut does not fishtail down the lake on glare ice. The one downfall is that it does leave scratches in my driveway and is hard to pull by hand without snow or ice. I can post pictures at a later time if you’re interested in this option.

I’d like to see this. I’ve been thinking about adding carbides for a while. Please post pictures.

    Thanks

Photos are below. I took one picture of the inside of the hut so that you can see the bolts come right up through the bottom like the hyrax kit.

On another note I looked at adding a couple sets of snowmobile ski wheels to the hut to flip down when running the road but they seem very expensive and I’m not sure if they could be adapted to fit. I’d be interested to see if anyone has tried this.

I used to have a hitch-hauler for my wheeler. That worked awesome for my one man and two man shacks.

I even bolted a matching sled (two man Eskimo) to the hitch hauler. The shack nested perfectly into to it. For short runs I wouldn’t even tie it down.

I did however always have a strap running from the hitch hauler to the rear rack, to help distribute the weight.

B-man, forgive my ignorance, but is this (attached picture) similar to what you’re referring to? And you’d have that in your ATV receiver with the flipover on it?

Growing up I had a mile and a half drive to a local lake and a small utility trailer or polar yard trailer is what I used. Might be a little overkill for a few blocks but usable elsewhere and no sled or driveway damage.

    That’s it.

The one I had was designed for use on an ATV. Instead of coming straight out of the hitch, it had a couple *45 bends to raise it for more clearance.

It was high enough that I could leave it in place (with the shack inside it) and drive on and off a sledbed tilt trailer.

I’ll try to find some pics or Google images for you.

    Here’s a pic of it.

I think I bought it at the old Gander Mountain, but I’m sure there’s equivalents out there.

It worked awesome. I could go 60+ mph and not beat everything up.

The extra Quick Flip II sled was bolted directly to it. Made securing it a breeze. My Fish Trap Pro (in the pic) fit into it too.

I also had to make an exhaust shield on the sled so It didn’t melt a hole.

For a one or two man shack I wouldn’t do it any other way.

A three man would be too heavy for an ATV, but would probably work with a UTV if you found a heavy duty carrier and a buddy to help lift the shack in and out.

Yes thanks for the info. I’ll be looking into it as an option for sure. I have a one man hideout that would work slick in something like that.
