Slamming Largemouth with the Chatterbait

Went out with the GF recently and got our first open water largemouth video done for 2020! We had been looking forward to making this for a while, we just have had a very cold spring over here in the mountains…lots of cold fronts.

We hit a reservoir not too far away from where we live and decided to bring the belly boats with us. Chose the wrong day for that as it was REALLY WINDY and it started of course right when we got to the water. It’s a 1/4 mile walk uphill to the reservoir so we got the belly boats out anyway since we hauled them up there.

Didn’t have a thermometer but the water was still pretty cold. Couldn’t have been more then low 50’s/high 40’s…I feel one of the biggest challenges with Colorado bass fishing in the Spring/Fall is the drastic temp changes from high to low. Often times over 30 -35 degree changes from highs to lows. Mixed with a really windy day, can be challenging figuring out what they want to bite.

Figured the chatterbait was a good place to start and it was…3/16oz Chartreuse/white with a 4″ Zako Swimbait Trailer was consistently landing me fish. The reservoir has high columns of vegetation so I was slow rolling with slight pops around that. Also caught a fish that digested a worm hook, hook end stuck in his anus, felt bad for it…

Hope you guys enjoy the video! Got some good drone shots of the area, our first drone shots for a bass video ever for the channel! If pictures are more your thing, attached are some photos of the day!!

I’ve used chatterbaits a lot over the last 4-5 years and love them. If I had to catch a fish and only one choice I’d probably go chatterbait.

Chatterbaits are something I started gaining confidence on last year and really trying to get them down this year…One of my buddies who fishes primarily for bass said to use this trailer, I loved it of course…Any that you would recommend? or any specific chatterbaits besides the Jackhammer? hahaha

    Pike magnet.

Can’t believe I forgot to mention the applicability of chatterbaits to my favorite fish.

If you’re out fishing for game fish that fight (pike & bass) those chatterbaits can be a blast.

Good to know, never tried fishing a chatterbait for pike! Will have to try that very soon!
