I am fishing for some help please , I am building a skid house and need your advise regarding the runners . I am using 4 x6 x 12 foot fir for the skids but would like to put a plastic or nylon runner underneath but am not sure what to use or where to get it from . I would think that it should be around 1/2 inch thick as the fasteners would need to be countersunk . Any suggestions would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers !

Do a search for UHMW and you will come up with many suppliers. UHMW is the best material to use but also the most initial investment. It will/should outlast less expensive alternative materials.

I’d advise wrapping it up and over the leading edge of your runners so there is no exposed end edge on the runner.

Go with white oak or steel. Or make sure they are easily replaced

They sell 4x8ft sheets of HDPE plastic at Menards for $60. That’s for 1/4″ thick, they also have 1/2″ available.
