I recorded these values using the video camera in my phone so I could repost them accurately here. All these fuel consumption figures are at steady plane (except for the values at idle) with a 300 Yamaha Off Shore on my Skeeter WX2100.

    IDLE = 0.6 GPH (2.5 MPH)

    1800 RPM = 5.0 GPH (20 MPH / 4 MPG)

    2000 RPM = 5.2 GPH (22 MPH / 4.2 MPG))

    2400 RPM = 5.2 GPH (26 MPH / 5 MPG)

    2800 RPM = 6.1 GPH (30 MPH / 4.9 MPG)

    3000 RPM = 6.6 GPH (32 MPH / 4.8 MPG)

    3100 RPM = 7.1 GPH (33 MPH / 4.6 MPG)

    3300 RPM = 7.8 GPH (35 MPH / 4.5 MPG)

    3500 RPM = 8.1 GPH (37 MPH / 4.6 MPG)

    4000 RPM = 11.2 GPH (42 MPH / 3.75 MPG)

    4300 RPM = 14.6 GPH (45 MPH / 3.1 MPG)

    5900 RPM = 26.1 GPH (60 MPH / 2.3 MPG)

I’ve been thrilled with the fuel consumption on this motor. The mid-range economy from 3000 – 3500 RPMs (32 – 37 MPH) is very impressive to me given the overall size of the boat being pushed. Of course if you want to make a WOT blast down the lake… it will cost you.

That’s about 35% better than my evinrude 250 e-tec and you don’t use oil like crazy. My dealer sells e-tec and yamaha, wonder why he pushed so hard on the e-tec? My fault, should have kept what I always have had.

Technology has come a LONG way. I had a 175 EFI motor (non-yammie) back in the day that struggled to get 2.5 MPG at optimum cruising speed on an 18’ tin boat. At 28 MPH. Here we have nearly twice as many ponies pushing one of the largest fiberglass walleye rigs on the market getting nearly 5 MPG at a greater speed.

Hats off to the Yamaha engineers.

The Yamaha Off Shore motors really didn’t become available until early summer 2010. If memory serves me you re-powered last summer 2009 so your dealer wouldn’t have been able to put this motor up as an option.

Let me know if you’d like to take a ride some time. If you’re ever coming through MPLs… pool 2 is only 15 minutes from my house.

Your memory is right. They replaced my engine on my less than 1 year old ranger that blew up. If you don’t mind I will show your data to my wife and explain how much money I will save on gas if I trade my boat (: I imagine the 250 is better yet. Don’t need the speed, mine goes 60 now but only do it once a year for the heck of it. The speed I like is 40mph. Better start checking with my dealer, maybe even check with your people.

Give Gregg over at Skeeter Boat Center a call. I’m sure he would be happy to give you a quote on a motor so you can compare it with quotes from your local dealer. And that offer for a test drive is still good.

I didn’t think they sold just motors. I inquired via email about 1-2 years ago on trading in my motor for a larger one. Response was that they only did packages. Was I misinformed?

That is awsome James !!! I can’t crack 4.0 with my F225 on my Ranger 619. According to my link coming into the Lowrance from my motor.

I really don’t know if they sell just motors. But if they do they’d be a good / great source for a quote on one as their prices seem to be tough if not impossible to beat on everything else.

My motors has over 15 hours on it now so it is good and broke in and the numbers seem very consistent from one test to the next. I know Yamaha claimed the new SHO / Off Shore motors got a 12% bump in fuel economy over the previous Yamaha 4 Stroke motors which are known fuel sippers. All in all I couldn’t be more happy with the way the motor runs. Seeing these fuel consumption numbers is icing on the cake.

From talking to Gregg at one of the recent Ride and Drives, I think that they are only allowed to purchase one or two loose motors per year. I assumed that kickers were an exception. They are a “package” store.

60+ gallons. Takes a long time to fill it. Thankfully it takes a lot longer to empty it.

I would be happy if I could get 25 gallons in my Mr. Pike. I got to fill the darn thing up all the time (17 galloon tank).

    Oil filter Yam. F150 = $28.24

    Oil Yamalube 4M = $26.52/gal. ($6.63/qt.) X 2 = $53.04

    5 qts.(F150) 1 qt.(T8) 2 qts. on hand.

    Fuel/Water Separator = $24.00

    Lower unit gaskets (4) x $1.00 = $4.00 (I have paid > 2.00

for these in the past. Gotta deal…….huh?)

    Total with tax = $117.23

Good thing I had some lower unit lubricant on hand.

I would have to net 42 mpg at 2500 rpms to pull the boat out of the garage this month.

    Just sayin…………………
