I added screens on both my livewells and my baitwell.

Same here. I’ve had to do that on a couple boats. Customizing it yourself may be needed. I had an overflow so big I was losing bullheads one time.

Yup, definitely add screens or just keep your minners in a bait tamer inside the baitwell. The tamer does make it easier to catch those quick little buggers when it comes time to pin them on a hook, too.

X2 I use a bait tamer now. I have had big chubs get stuck and flood the whole back of the boat!

Yes, a bait tamer would work but this is something that Skeeter should take care of in future boats.

What good is a baitwell that doesn’t hold bait?

Can you Skeeter prostaff guys bring this issue up the next time your talking to the Skeeter bigshots?

    Thanks

Ya, I laughed when my “minnow bucket” didn’t fit in the back bait well of my 1850, by less then 1/2″ . Go figure. I had a few words for the Skeeter R&D folks as well.
Truth is, I always hated that traditional yellow bucket anyways. Gave me a good reason to get a bait tamer. Still usin’ the old plastic one up front though.

That suggestion has already been made and looks to be incorporated into a new model coming out in 2011.

Agreed – not trying to be negative here but…

Come on Man!!! (stealing the phrase from ESPN) paying $35K-$60K for a boat and this isn’t included? I know we can all go out and buy them but really… I believe most of their glass competition have these as ‘standard’ features…

Enough said and I am glad the pro-staff is addressing – hopefully this will happen now – shouldn’t need a model year change to screw on the plastic filter covers.

awwhh…you guys were still talking about the screens. I see you’re point, and have had leeches escape the tamer, and out into the lake. Screens / no way to escape should be a given if it’s called a baitwell.

I’ve always kept my “minners” and leeches in some type of containment in my baitwells. I don’t like rounding em up at end of nite. I was frustrated that my common sized minnow bucket was fractions of an inch from fitting in the baitwell.

Thanks for the input to Skeeter James.

I was thinking that the 2 screens in my “Skeeter” info / paperwork “bag” might be for that after this discussion. I’ll have to dig them out and see if they work there.

Nope. No screens. Wishful thinking on my part. Screens I was thinking of were extras from prior boat and unfortuanetly went with it when I sold it.

While tidying up after last trip down to P4, I found my “missing” livewell/ baitwell screens that came with my 1850. They were right where I put them. Imagine that.

So, in defense of Skeeter, the boats (at least 2010 1850s) do come with them, just not in place, it appears.

Affirmative. They are the mushroom type.
