Here are a couple of questions for you guys:

    1. Any ideas for mounting downriggers? I have mounts for Berts Custom Tackle from my old boat. Are the gunnels strong enough to mount the tracks? Has anyone mounted these tracks right behind the seats?
    2. Which side are you mounting your T-8? Mine is a tiller mounted on the port side, but the tiller handle could hit the side of the boat.
    3. My boat came with a rigid tube over the lines/wires from the boat to the motor. The rigid tube hits the splash well when I tilt the motor up and pulls the rubber fitting out of the motor. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi Big E

    Welcome to IDO!!

I run a 2010 WX2100, and have my 9.9 Yamaha Kicker on the port side as well with a tiller handle. I haven’t had any problem hitting the sides of the boat when the motor is running thus trimmed down. With that being said I’m probably going to look into putting an extended handle on the tiller to run it from the bike seat in the back.

As far as trimming your big motor up I never trim it up to the extent that it would smash the protective tube, and possibly cause the problems you mentioned. In my boat the prop is safely above the bottom portion of the boat thus protected from any potential harm.

I’ll have to let possibly the boys from the Skeeter Boat Center discuss rigging the boat for downriggers.

I had the dealer install 6″ Bert’s tracks about 1″ behind the rear anchor cleats. Riggers attached to Bert’s swivel base, slide in easily. When the riggers are not on the boat, there’s a plastic step pad that slides in. We talked about the strength of this area, he said “no problem”. My previous boat was a ZX2050, had them mounted in the same area on Versa Ball mounts with a board across the back and it worked fine.

I prefer to have the kicker on the port side, mine is hooked to a TR-1, rarely if ever use the tiller, most of the time it’s locked in the upright position.

I’ve got Merc’s on mine so can’t speak to the rigging tube issue.

Thanks for the pics. How did you get access underneath the tracks to put a backing plate and or washers and nuts on? Thanks!

Did you add extra backing for the Bert’s?
On mine 2007 one side is open and the other you have to use the access hole.

No backing added, and had no problems this year running Cannon riggers with 12 pound balls. Mounted with #12 stainless screws and white silicone around the edges
