WX1880 and 200HPDI – Best Prop??

I have been through 3 or 4 props on my boat and I keep putting the original prop back on. It is the 21P Yamaha Pro Series prop. This prop is a hole-shot monster and puts me on plane in a nano second. My only worry is that lightly loaded I can over-rev the prop with no problem. I’m currently running 5900 RPM and 55-56 mph with a 1/2 tank of gas and 2 guys.
Is there a better option for me out there? I see that Yamaha’s got a performance bulletin on this set up with a 23P Yamaha Saltwater Series that looks interesting. I’ve tried some other 23 pitch props with poor results.

    Opinions??

You may want to try the 23 saltwater. It is a slightly bigger diameter prop so that should help lower your rpms slightly and not lose a ton of whole shot.
Let us know how it works

Do you know of anyone close that has one on hand? I’ve hade trouble finding one.

Try contacting this guy. He has an excellent reputation for prop work amongst the bass guys. You could get that prop worked up one pitch to get your rpm’s lowered. Not sure how much cupping would help you out. He turns stuff around within’ the week. Going to be shipping my 25T1 off to be Blueprinted and Balanced in a few weeks.

I second nic’s idea, have the prop worked, I also thought it the rpm range was acceptable upto 6k, but I don’t follow the hpdi’s as closely (I have an ox66)

I don’t really want to re-work the prop in light of the fact that with a heavy load it works so great. With 3 or 4 people and full of gas and gear I still get 5500 and 53 mph with this prop. The max RPM range is 4500-5500 for this motor although a Yamaha tech has also told me not to worry if I’m under 6000.
I just know there are other 1880 owners out there with the 200 hpdi on the back and am wondering what everyone is running.

I believe the skeeter boat center has one, or if they dont, they would know how to get a hold off one for you. Click on the banner at the bottom of my post for their contact info. You will want to speak to dan or dave.

After seeing what your rpm range runs at, you may consider a 21 saltwater. The pitch seems to be right but just need to drop the rpms a little, which a larger diameter prop would do.
Give dan a call and pick his brain a little also. 715 833 0060
