Long time lurker, first time poster. I am shopping for a boat upgrade that will happen in the next 1-2years. I currently have a alumacraft 175 navigator with a 150hp. I fish alot of medium sized midwest prairie lakes, several trips to missouri river each year and a week up on Leech or Cass each year. My wife likes to fish and we have 3 kids ages 9,7,1, that enjoy fishing, boating etc. I fish alone or with one other guy/kid the majority of the time. No tournaments. I have a weird work schedule and fish when I can, often regardless of weather. I mostly fish walleyes and muskies, less often bass or panfish. I carry alot of rods when fishing. We started our search last fall and I have been in about every ranger, skeeter, warrior, yar craft, stratos, larson out there. I would like a 18-19ft glass boat with a 200hp motor, because I think it would fit our needs well, my wife wanted the first ranger 621 we looked at.

I really like the layout and storage of the mx1825, clearly skeeter put a ton of thought into the use of every inch of this boat. I think it would fit my needs well, but I have 2 concerns. How is it in rough water? How about shallow landings? I have read every review I can find but most are new boat one trip reviews that are usually all roses. I would like to hear from guys with a year or two in all conditions, how is it in rough windy conditions. I have talked with a couple of dealers that have 2012s that they cant sell because they feel they are too small/shallow. Also I fish some small shallow pot-hole lakes and the high position on the trailer makes me nervous I will need to back my whole pickup in.

In all my searching and talking with dealers the redesigned wx1850/1900 that should show up this summer maybe what Im looking for. If it has the same port rodlocker and starboard storage as well as similar jumpseats and rear storage as a wx2060 I will start picking out colors. The current versions leave me wanting more.

    Thanks

    AWJ,

I had a 1825 for three seasons. And recently went to 21ft wx. I really loved the 1825. This is whats great about it.

Price- cant be beat it for what you get

layout- Awesome design and fishability is perfect. Tons of room!

tracking- react keel is something that has to be tried to understand

    rod storage- awesome.25+ rods

stability- doesn’t tip or rock at all

    The down side…

Definitely go with the 200hp, I had the 150 4st. and felt it was under powered. Still top end with 150 is plenty fast.

One of the biggest reasons for the upgrade for me was the ride. I fish a lot of bigger water, Misso. River, milleLacs, winni, LOW as well as NE South Dakota Lakes region. And it was definitely not fun on windy days. The boat definitely can handle anything mother nature passes out and I never felt unsafe, but my back and kidneys couldn’t not.

ALLTHOUGH…. boat is really dry. Never got wet no matter the conditions.

Overall great boat, great value. Just don’t think this is the boat if you frequent bigger water. Medium to small lakes or rivers? This could be perfect for what you need.

    hope this helps

any other questions let me know.

I decided to go used 1880 instead of the 1825 because of what I heard of its ride in big waves. I hope they incorporate the interior design on a deeper hull boat, maybe the new 19xx?

If they would just slap a 200 hp on the WX1850, all our problems would be solved.

I do have the 200 on mine, just not the 4 stroke. Would be sweet if I did though.

Man I don’t know who gave you that info regarding the ride of the 1825 but it handles itself very well in rough conditions… when compared to other 18 foot boats. I’ve had it out in some brutal stuff and I was very impressed. Now if you’re comparing it to a 20 foot boat it will definitely feel noticeably less capable in the truly rough stuff.

This is some pretty good input for the guys trying to decide between an 1825 and a larger/ longer boat. In my opinion, if rough water handling is a top priority, you shouldn’t be looking at 18 foot boats. A 20′ boat would be much more appropriate as that two feet of added length makes a massive difference in ride quality and it doesn’t matter if we’re talking tin or glass, Skeeter or a boat from a different manufacturer. Of course if you don’t fish big water often and really only need to know that your ride will get you back to port safely when things get snotty then the 1825 might be just what you’re looking for.

I just got into the 1825 mx this year and so far I love it. I have been fishing mostly in Wisconsin and putting the boat in at landings that I figured I had no chance with. The boat is harder to get off the trailer than getting it back on… So if you can push it off… No worries, you’ll get it back out of the water. As for the ride, I haven’t had it on a ton of big water but I have it on Chequemegon Bay twice now and had to cut diagonally across 2 – 3 footers and was super impressed with the ride… I have a 200 on mine and love it. I actually had a guy laying on is back on the front deck as I was doing about 47 mph in decent waves (not 3 footers) but he was practically asleep up there. I would not be worried about the ride of 1825, unless you fish huge water every day and have back troubles. If you like to cast, you will love this boat. Fishablilty is awesome!

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to imply the 1825 has a poor ride in big waves. I fish in 4-5 ft waves too often and from what I read, the 1880 can handle those waves more comfortably. There were other reasons I went with the 1880 vs. the 1825 also. So far I’m very happy and impressed. The 2025 may be the boat for me in a few years once I get this thing paid off.

    AWJdad,
The best part about thinking about SKEETER is that, with a little effort you can be guaranteed to test drive just about any model in the lineup. Dean at SBC will line that up if your up in the MN area. Or DanO’s in South Dakota, or Shane at Great Lakes Marine. All of these guys would be more than happy to line something up for you. So you can see for yourself what you like and don’t like. Find any other boat dealerships that will do that over a four state area. I haven’t.
    Give them a Call.
Wouldn’t buy a truck with out driving it around a little bit, why take a guess on a boat?
    Good luck!

No need to apologize muskeye… 4 and 5 footers are huge! I don’t fish in them. If the lake kicks up that big I’m finding dry land… With that said, I’m sure my 1825 will see some 4 footers on the way back in at some point this year. I’ll report back on the performance!

I have had a mx2025 for about a year I LOVE the storage and Fishability been out in 3 footers on Mille Lacs with my wife without complaint. So far never been wet in the boat (except from rain) Tracks great and can hit 60 (with 3 people, loaded) when needed. really cannot think of a complaint right now. Test drove the the 2190 as well, but went with the 2025 because of storage.
