Finally got time to install LED lighting in my storage compartments and live wells on my WX2000T. Pretty simple project and took about 2 hours from start to finish. Have $160 shipping included into the whole project.

    Watch for low flying aircraft!

Looks pretty sweet and the LED’s won’t take much draw from the batteries.

Red is my fav color for night fishing. No bugs, no night blindness and in my case when using red headlamps, navigational markers and the eyes of critters show up like a sore thumb.

I think you’re going to love them in your boat!

Those are sweeet You got those all hooked up to the same switch or are they on a bank separately? My marine switches from the hardware store one was faulty from the get go, got to find some quality ones. Thinking I should have wired them together.

Total draw is only 1.07amps so they are all on 1 switch. Didn’t see a need for multiple switches since when the hatches are closed no light shows until you open one up so they will just be left on all night.

    THANK YOU for this post!

I’m getting toward the tail end of my boat remodel project and thinking about LEDs. Those look like good products and easy to install.

My last item to decide is what color. I know that going away from white reduces bugs. Any pro/con on red vs blue?

Probably the only reason I won’t do this is I’ll need to add a whole new rocker panel to replace the antique that’s in there now. I’ve got fatigue from trying to get everything completed and may have to postpone future improvements

I have used blue on other projects and at least for me when it is really dark out the blue seems a little harsher on your eyes going from dark to light and also takes a few seconds longer for your eyes to readjust to the darkness.

If you have easy access to your battery you can wire them with clips and just clip them to the battery at the beginning of the night and unhook it when done fishing. Leave your wires long enough so you can reroute to a switch at a later time. Don’t forget to put a fuse on the positive wire.

    Question:
Did you just hook the new LED’s into the current lights? I really like the idea and if I could just switch out the current lights to LED’s, I would think that would be a fairly easy DIY.

I put them on there own switch and circuit. In my boat the courtesy lighting is the interior lights and live wells lights but no compartment lights. I hate having lights shining inside the boat because all they do is attract bugs so I prefer compartment lighting only then use a head lamp for anything else.
