RAM Swing Arm Mounts vs Traditional RAM Mounts

I noticed a majority of Skeeter owners go with the RAM Swing Arm mount at the console for the larger screens. I’ve always had traditional RAM ball mounts and was curious what the advantages are of the Swing Arm mount? Screen Stability & Quick disconnect/removal are the most important factors to me. I’ll rarely need the ability to manuever the screen around alot, I just want it to be easy to read from the drivers seat.

Screen Stability is the main reason they are installed here at SBC. The larger screens do not move with the swing arm compared to traditional ram mounts. Another option that I personally have been happy with is the Stabil mounts. Machined aluminum, very sturdy, and able to be adjusted accordingly as well.

    Thanks Cal!

How are they for quick removal? I want to remove my screen when done fishing.

Swing arm disconnect is as simple as just spinning the bottom nut off and pulling the unit up. Youll need to keep track of a couple components when you do this though, most notably, a bushing washer about an 1 1/2 round. The other washers will stow when you screw the bottom nut back onto the mount to stow.

Its easier to spin this screw, than it is to undo the side gimbal knobs on the bird,(which is a PITA) it takes more room to store if you leave the gimbal bracket attached to the mount though..

Thanks, you’d think they would make a simple no parts to mess with solution for quick removal, with the prices the large screen units go for, I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving it on the boat..

Maybe a Johnny Ray mount is the best option for me? They use a simple 1 button release..

Gotta chime in here too…I really like the Cisco mounts, can’t say for sure if they’re better or even with the Stabil, but you can mount the Cisco anywhere, in any position…blue water guys even go upside down on the underside of the roof of the con. There is a backing plate that the unit and sonar marry up to with two set screws with large knurled tops that make taking it off and on a snap after disconnecting the cords and all that’s left is the backing plate flush with the surface. They’re very comparable with the Stabil mounts as far as price and customer service is excellent. Not a sales pitch but giving you opinions on options that are out there. Hope this is of use to you.

I have a Johnny Ray mount and like it a lot. It’s not adjustable for position other than rotation, but I don’t need that. It is very easy to remove the unit after fishing.

Reddog hit the nail on the head with how to remove off swing arm. Quickest removal is with a Johnny Ray like you mentioned, also quickest for thieves as well.
