Mounting tracks

Has anyone used these rails? I currently have Cannon DT-5’s mounted on the handrail of a MX 1825 and do not like how much they bounce around when running so am looking for an option and not too excited about drilling holes in the gunnel. If I went to these or similar tracks I would be attempting to mount them in the same holes the handrails currently use.

I have used them on several boats and including my WX2000T. TraxsTech is my preferred brand over others but just because I like the black bead blasted ones.

I think on the MX they would look nice if you were to remove the cleat behind the grab rail and mount them there then just get cleats mounted on a base plate then can be put into the tracks when needed. Or put them just behind the cleats. Space them up with nylon washers so they do not touch down on the fiberglass.

I have them on my MX. I really like this system a lot! At first I wasn’t quite sold on it, but once I put it to work I was really pleased on how well this system works. I like how versatile it is. You can buy all sorts of different gadgets that slide into the rail. They have a piece you can buy that has holes drilled in it for ram mounts. This made mounting my trolling motor mount a breeze! I really like how durable the rod holders are. When you grab ahold of them, you instantly know that they are quality built. I know James Holst had this track system mounted on his boat. Maybe he will chime in and give you his 2 cents as well. They are a little expensive, but it will be money well spent if you can swing it.

Here are a couple threads that were on IDO awhile ago about the system. I do believe you will have to drill different holes for everything to line up, but from what I can remember, all the existing holes will be covered with the track.

Why are people so afraid to drill a few holes in a boat to install things that will make the boat much more user friendly and improve functionality? You bought the boat to be used, right? So, make it work for YOU. Think of it as a tool for fishing.

I installed 6′ tracks 4years ago on my boat, they are great. The best advice I can offer is install them correctly once. Drill through and use adequate size backer plates/washers, stainless fasteners and nylock nuts. Make sure they are never coming off and intend to sell them with the boat. If they are intended to stay there does it matter if there are drill holes under them? Right?
Tracks are the only way to go IMHO, rails have very little true function.

    Agreed.

Here’s a post I did about my “one rigging regret” on my 2025. I ordered my 2025 with rails and after fishing with it for a couple months I couldn’t stand it any more and I wanted to find a way, any way, to go back to tracks.

With SBC’s help we initially tried to put the tracks on the rails. It was a stop-gap fix and worked like one. In the end I bit the bullet and mounted them to the gunnels the way I should have done it in the first place. The tracks fit the way I fish to a “T” and are far more versatile in my opinion. Like others have suggested, get over yours fears of drilling holes and mount the tracks to the gunnel. You’ll never regret it. If you’re concerned about doing it improperly, take the boat to SBC or another trustworthy dealer and have them do it. I’m sure the fee would be nominal.
