If you only plan on using the foot pedal up in the bow, 18′ of cord is a little excessive. Is it possible to shorten the cord, thus having less excess rolled up in front of the pedal?

Im sure its possible but I wouldnt want to do it. You will compromise the wires and also the seal. I would assume it would also void your warranty on the pedal also. If you roll it up and zip tie it, it stays out of the way quiet well.

Exactly what I did with mine, rolled, tied and stored. It’s almost always in the same spot on autopilot and I just make directional/speed changes.
It’s never crossed my mind to cut it.February 3, 2014 at 12:40 pm #1385522I have bow storage right in front of where I put the pedal. Like they said, zip tie the excess and push off to the side or push forward into storage area.
February 3, 2014 at 12:51 pm #1385529for boats with no bow storage area to tuck it into it gets quite cluttered up there, reducing the roll of unused cable would be nice…
Do people still put the foot peddle in the back of the boat and use all 18′ of the cable anymore? especially with iPilot/Link more becoming the norm…

Im sure it has come in handy. I keep mine in my boat for the day my remote breaks, batteries die (have spares too) of lose the remote. Also the new Link remotes can eat up power fast from what I hear.
You may be best off looking into opening the foot pedal itself if you want to shorted it up. Though I have not looked at mine lately and am not sure how sealed up it may be.

I tied everything up nice and neat so it’s not one big bird’s nest of wires. Took some time and patience to work in the small area, but the end result was worth it for me. I used clam shells to cover up the entry and exit hole for the wires. Makes it look very neat and professional. I hate all the extra wire you get with everything. I swear I have 5lbs of extra wire in my boat between transducers, graphs and bowmount. Boat is all covered up right now, but I can try to get a pick if you really need one.

Constantly!
Even though I do use the remote, I hope the 18′ cable/foot pedal never goes away. Options like this are important to guys who like the ability to control as many things as possible from anywhere in the boat.February 5, 2014 at 6:00 am #1386048Quote:

I think I have only ever seen Joel fishing from the steering console in his boat!
