Hydraulic steering with kicker motor???

This question would be on a MX1825 since that is what I’m looking at but could be applied to other boats. I understand that hydraulic steering is standard on the MX1825. I’ve never operated a boat with hydraulic steering so I have no experience with this technology. What I was wondering is how well the boat tracks when using the kicker with remote steering. How well does the hydraulic steering keep a straight line when using the kicker remotely?

I’m also curious about using the kicker and the Terrova with iPilot at the same time to pull cranks at 2.5+ MPH? I envision having the kicker in gear with the steering wheel pointing the boat straight then using the Terrova to steer the boat. Anyone done this before?

I use the kicker with the Terrova every time I troll. It seems to steer a little bit better with the I-Pilot, if the Terrova has a little more power than the kicker. I do not have kicker attached to big motor.

this is a great technique…i do the same thing with a 9.9 kicker in gear at the lowest speed, and steering with the Terrova…when casting muskie baits on rock reefs while working into stiff winds.
using the Terrova at high speed settings and “bursting” it (not on constant) turns the boat great. if it works for casting tight to rocks, i’m sure it’ll work for trolling walleye cranks too.

Thanks for the information everyone. Sounds like the Terrova and kicker are a good combination.
