Skeeter Gas Tanks

Finally migrated from a lifetime of Lund loyalty to a 2008 Skeeter WX1880. Can’t wait to hit the water! The question is about the duel gas tanks. Is there any strategy or sense to filling one more or less than the other for balance or planing, or should I just fill both equally and put the fuel consumption switch on the duel setting? Any input would help. Thanks.

My buddys 07′ 1880 with 150 I noticed that if you leave the front tank till last it planed better, was faster and the bow weight helped with waves. In other words we would leave the bow as full as possible and run from the rear tank for best results.

One thing I want to say, you may already know this, but the manual switch for tank selection is under one of the jump seats (dont recall which side but thinking drivers). We found out the hard way on the first trip with the boat that the switch on the dash was only for the gauges. Good thing we were up river from Everets.

Also be aware that the livewell may overflow to the floor on that model year. There were some plumbing issues with some boats. Something to check for.

    Enjoy the ride.

I have one too. Keep the front tank filled. It will help you plane-out better – and just have a better ride on the water. The added weight in the front also helps to keep the wind from throwing your front end around. I always draw fuel from the rear tank first.
The livewell tank can overfill, but you need to watch the filler line in the tank and turn it down a bit from the valve inside the tank (so it slows the fill a bit). Otherwise, it can fill faster than it empties.

When I had mine I didnt bother with filling one more or less, just filled them both and set it on dual. With that said, if your looking to improve performance or speed you may want to mess with which one has more fuel in it.

With that said, if you have a kicker you will NOT want to run the rear tank empty first. The kicker pulls its fuel from the rear tank ONLY so if its empty your kicker will not run.

Nice looking rig!! If you have any other questions ask away

Thanks for the advise guys. I do have a kicker, so I will probably have to keep a good supply in the rear tank at all times, but keep the front tank a little more full for better planing and boat balance with two motors on the back.

That being said, I am excited to be a Skeeter owner and can’t wait for open water fishing on Lake Winnebago this year.

I went from a Lund to a Skeeter two years ago too. Never looked back..man this boat saved my back! Ditto on the rear tank for the kicker, found that out the hard way. I like to drain my rear tank to about 1/4 tank before i switch it to the front, I use mine to pull skiers too and the front tank full sure helps the hole shot.
