Very stupid question

In the booklet I picked up at the sports show. It says, length on trailer with motor is towing position and swing away tongue open.

Open meaning ready to hook up to the truck or open meaning folded in?

Just want to know if I can gain 2 feet by trimming the motor down a little and folding in the tongue so i can fit it in my third stall. Or will I have to angle it a little in the garage which will mean the beer fridge and other important items will have to me moved.

Depends on what the meaning of open is

I do know that most swing away tongue kits will allow you from 21″to 36 ” of extra room when folded away(off to the side), it all depends on how your trailer tongue is set up now .

My 1800 Fisherman has a swing away tongue and with it folded and the motor trimmed down (115 Merc)I would estimate it at somewhere around 22 ft. Sorry I don’t have an exact measurement, but my boat is still in storage.

I would take “open” meaning folded back, not ready to hook up to truck and motor up, like you would be when towing.

I would have “assumed” the other… being the motor is in the trailering position? Closed being folded away. Thinking I would make a call to the manufacturer… unless ya really trust the dealer and it makes a huge difference.

This is how I decipher it. A phone call would get a reassuring answer!

My guess would be open means ready to hook up. I’m pretty sure if they are giving you the measurement with the motor in towing position the tongue would be in towing position too. Let us know what you find out

Well, Skeeter says the MX1825 on trailer is 21’7″

The boat itself is 18’4″ and the motor probably sticks out from the back of the boat another 3′, so I would guess it means the motor is completely down and the swing tongue is open to the side of the trailer? If the tongue was in the trailering position, the overall length would probably be around 24′

What’s strange is that shouldn’t you always tow your boat with the motor tilted up and on a Transom Saver? doing that will add another foot or so of length…

Hopefully somebody from the Skeeter Boat Center can chime in with the facts..

Its best to have dealer or you take actual measurements in my experience.

Pretty sure the length given is with motor down and swing-away tongue folded open(giving you the shortest length).

Swing away tongue “open” means it is folded in, giving you the shortest length possible and is not ready for towing. I will trim my motor most of the way down and then turn it to the side to get the shortest length out of my boat and trailer.
