OK, so on a late season fishing trip to LOTW out of Sioux Narrows this fall with the FW and #2 son. The boy loves to put a seat up on the back deck. Super windy, FW hangs up a muskie bait close to shore. While I am on the TM heading in to retrieve bait, Jr. trims up the motor. Really trims it up! We hear a “cracking” sound, yep the front of the Yamaha F150 motor cowling cracked after hitting the seat. Big ‘old crack / spider web in the finish.

New cowlings are $1,300, ugh. Any thoughts / suggestions about a fiberglass repair shop that could handle this? My friends at SBC are doing some other work but this is not on the menu for them.

Watching eBay, but so far nothing that will work.

It goes without saying I have to either fix or replace, just thinking about all the tackle you can buy for $1,300.

TIA for the help and Merry Christmas to all!

I would think that would be covered in your insurance.

Contact Schoenmann Boat Works in Rochester. Mark did a nice job on mine. Your insurance should cover less the deductible.

Your insurance will cover it, after all it isnt your fault a bird hit it while you were driving down the road.

my foot mounted trim button got stuck and raised my motor till the shift lefter on the tiller hit the seat and proceeded to put a hole all the way thru on a johnson 4 stroke hood a few years ago, this while trailering, just took it to a local auto body shop and they repaired it as good as new for not too much.

You’ll have the same result if you just tell the truth, minus the handcuffs.

Decals will be more than the repair if you order them from Yamaha. I had a tarp strap break and hook end damaged front of my 150. Had it fixed and painted. Truck lettering place made the decales. They were a little different and I left off the emission sticker but had it all fixed for $150 total.

my F150 has caused damage twice: once when my thumb was on the trim button and once when the bow button got triggered while running in heavy waves.
since around ’10 they have trim limiters, sure wish mine did.

wouldn’t it be possible to get a used cover from a broken motor? you might try calling around to Yamaha mechanics and asking?

Thank you all, I will reach out to the shop in Rochester. Sounds like it will be not too expensive, probably less than my deductible.

    Happy Holidays to all!
