When will Skeeter have a power steering system available to put a Yamaha 150 or bigger motor on this boat. Love the boat but am sick of 36mph and last one to fishing spot in a tournament.

Heard the last design they had got shot down by Yamaha. Haven’t heard of anything in the works now for a while. I am beginning to wonder if it will ever happen?!?!

Warrior makes a great tiller. I spend half my time fishing in a 1890 with a 115 Yamaha

Have you guys ever heard of backtroller boats?

I just heard of them this year. It sounds like they’re new? I guess they make em in the same facility as the Warriors? I always like to see more tiller options out there.

This is my first year in the 620T/200HP Verado and after 160 hours on it, I can honestly say this combo is one fine walleye fishing machine! You get the best of both worlds by quickly getting up to 50MPH, then have the precision boat control of a Swiss watch once you get to your spot. If anyone is ever interested in a test drive, shoot me a PM and I’d be happy to let you take it for a spin on Mille Lacs.

    Slot,

What prop are you running? I get 38 pretty consistently and can hit 39 once I burn some gas.

I get similar speeds with my 620T and 115 Yamaha. I have hit 41mph with mine under ideal conditions but for the most part I run 37-38mph, few guys, gas and gear.

    I wish the WX2000T came with a 150 as well. I think that’d be a sweet setup

Is the Verado a 2 stroke?

    Hi Joe,

The Merc Verado is a turbo charged 4 Stroke. I had the opprotunity to test drive this combo last fall, and was orignially thinking I’d go with a 175 Optimax and 620T. After seeing first hand how the Verado shoots out of the hole and gets up to 50 MPH in no time, combined with the ability to dial it down at fishing speeds, I was sold! It is also so quiet, you can have a conversation with your passenger when running wide open. For us tiller fans, it’s also great to sit by all day and not get any fumes or loud noise while backtrolling. Now after 3 solid months behind it, I wouldn’t go any other way! The Merc Big Tiller Steering System is so effortless as well that my 5 year old daughter can even steer it.

If you ever get down this way and want to take a spin, let me know

    Thanks,

    stock Yamaha

I have the stock Yamaha prop too. I don’t know what it is, but my motor is starting to get faster with age. Yesterday on Mille Lacs I hit 40 mph with myself, wife and full load of gear. I might have to empty it out and see if I can hit 42.
For most Mille Lacs tournament, 15 miles is the farthest I could travel to a spot. The 2000Ts with 150s get about 48 tops (thats the same for most 20′ tillers), so if I go 38 on average that means they might beat me by 4-5 mins to a spot 15 miles away. About half the time its too rough to go faster than 40, so that equals everything out.

    Good point!

The only reason I’m considering a 150 is so I can take four clients plus myself. I can do it now but in 3 footers I don’t have the power I need to get out of the hole. The 115 has plenty of power for 3 plus me, but when I add that 5th person it really bogs me down.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a good motor. Glad to hear it’s a four stroke. I don’t see the point of a two stroke tiller boat. That said, I think it’d be VERY tough for me to drop my love for Yamaha. The Verado does sound nice. Thanks for the offer on the ride!

i’ve got a WX2000T with a 150hp Yamaha…does 48 tops, and slows all the way down to 46 with 3 guys, 40gals of gas, and a full load of muskie gear. ;-) plenty of punch to get up on plane quickly – stock Yamaha black stainless.

imho, the Skeeter has a bunch of advantages over the other comparable big tillers, not the least of which is the wider beam for more space inside, wider side tanks for more foot room when casting, and exceptional stability due to the hull sponson design.

there’s not many ’09s out there with the 150hp on back, but a few used ones have started showing up in the winter.
