I have a 2009 WX2000T with YAM115 1197 bird with in hull ducers when I’m 25mph or less I have good sonar but when 25 to 35 or up I have trouble keeping a depth reading the numbers will flash or read 85’ when I’m in 12’ of water. The ducers (I have 2) are mounted in the back one on either side of the drain plug. I bought the boat used I never had a bird depth finder or in hull ducers before. So my question is- is it the in hull mounting or maybe I need to set the bird differently
Where or how do you guys mount the ducers on a boat like mine?
bought the boat last fall and love the glass tiller

hey andy, congrats on the new rig

The issue you are having does sound like a glassed in ducer issue. one of 2 things could be happening. One being the glassed in ducer has an air bubble in the epoxy and the other being the hull of the boat may be to thick for the ducer to shoot through.
The location sounds about right as far as where they are in the boat.
There are a few options you could try in order to fix the problem. One solution and the for sure solution is to add an external transducer to the transom and be done with it. The other solution would be to glass in a new transducer. When doing so, grind into the floor some to make it not as thick.

You say there is 2 transducer glassed in? is there one not being used? If so have you tried hooking that one up to the bird and seeing if its better? I would try that first if you havent already

if i get a skimmer can i mount it next to the side img. ducer or will it be better on the other side? the other side has a vantage would that be a problem (turbulance maybe)

Andy, my WX is at SBC right now. Eric could take a picture of the transducers and show you how I have them located. I hated how lousy my glassed in ducer functioned so I had Eric rig an external skimmer ducer.

i have an ’09 WX2000T as well, and just like you the onboard transducers that came from the factory worked very poorly, especially at running speed.

SBC has now installed a new thru-hull transducer by water-testing the boat to find the proper location. it works much better now. i also had them mount an external skimmer transducer as a back-up and/or for a future 2nd unit.

my perspective was that if something comes installed from the factory it should work properly when purchased. SBC agreed and they “made it right” for me – as always. in fact, Gregg put a bunch of miles on his truck to do so. what a great dealership!

if you’ve never done it before, get professional help. it may cost you a few bucks to get it resolved since you’re not the original owner of the boat, but i would definitely take it to SBC if you’re anywhere in the area. if not, most dealerships should be able to help you find the “sweet spot” for mounting a transducer either inside or outside on the transom.

Do you think I can put a skimmer on the same side as the si? I would rather have a skimmer for future replacement and/or adjustments here are some pitchers of what I have
