Has anyone ever had a problem with the single axel trailers on 1880’s, 1850’s etc? I noticed a bunch of rubber on my fender this morning after launching by boat. My tires have been gauged from rubbing on the edges of the fenders. When the boat is on the trailer I have very little clearance from the fender to the tire. The tires are wider than the fenders so that may be the issue? Anyone else have this problem??

Yikes. That doesn’t sound right at all. How long have you had the boat? I’ve towed thousands of miles with a Skeeter of that size on a single axle and I’ve not noticed any contact between fender and tire. Sounds like a trip back to the dealer is in order before the tires blow.
April 29, 2012 at 6:05 pm #1032657I think James hit it on the head. Maybe a little more info on your rig would help. What boat do you have and what brand and size tires are you running?
April 29, 2012 at 8:14 pm #1063652I was going to ask if your tires were inflated too much, but they shouldnt even be close to rubbing. If the boat is new, take it back to the dealer.. if not then you better make sure you have the right tires on there.
April 29, 2012 at 8:29 pm #1063656My boat is a 2008 WX1880. I bought it new in December of 2010 so I ran it all last year and about 5-10 trips this year. I honestly never noticed anything until this morning when trailering. I was on a rougher street and I could feel trailer jerking as the tires were hitting the fenders. I dont’ have a lot of weight in the boat. It has a F150 and a T-8 on it. Other than that just a regular load of gear in the front lockers. I looked at my trailer warranty and It is only good for 3 years of manufacture date which would have been March 2011. Or 3 months into my ownership. I have a feeling I am going to be on the losing end of this repair. I’ve attached a couple of pics showing what clearance I do have.
Are there springs somewhere that could be broken? I don’t see any leaf springs or anything so I am pretty much in the dark on how to fix this.
April 29, 2012 at 8:44 pm #1063660Getting your boat to a Skeeter dealer with a reputation for taking care of the customer is going to be your best course of action. Dealerships, like Skeeter Boat Center, set up dozens of trailers like yours each spring and will be able to spot the issue in an instant. If the issue is with a trailer that was improperly set up by the factory or the original dealer, I would bet they’ll be able to lend a hand with a resolution.
So, my advice… don’t go trying to fix this on your own just yet. Take it to you dealer and have them diagnose the issue first. Once you know what is causing the issue the next step will likely be self-evident.
April 29, 2012 at 8:57 pm #1063663You don’t have a bilge full of water do you ?? Parked mine under a downspout once !!
April 29, 2012 at 8:59 pm #1063664replacing tires or would be much better then having a blow-out and losing the boat and/or tow vehicle? Seems to be more at issue then tires, suspension issue..
April 29, 2012 at 9:02 pm #1063665Maybe bent from standing on it? Does your other side sit that low?
April 29, 2012 at 9:45 pm #1063672I also sugest you contact the dealer first!
Check for water in the boat (plug) and/or maybe you have a broken spring?April 29, 2012 at 9:45 pm #1063673Your torsion axel may be bad. I had a 2007 tandum axel trailer and had to have both axels replaced as the rubber in the torsion axels gave out. I think they had a bad batch of axels around that time. The traler company covered the cost.
April 29, 2012 at 9:46 pm #1063676I would guess your torsion axle springs are weak or is it full of water like the post above mentions.
April 29, 2012 at 9:50 pm #1063680Taking it to the closest dealer tomorrow to get it checked out. I bought it from a dealer 3 hours from my home so hoping the guys treat me right. It is not full of water and both sides look like this.
April 29, 2012 at 9:52 pm #1063681Can you take the fenders off before you move it. Heat induced into the tire will blow one out, once one goes the other will follow very quickly.
April 29, 2012 at 10:00 pm #1063682I would take as much weight as possible out of it before hauling anywhere.
April 29, 2012 at 10:05 pm #1063684If it is the torsion axel you wont be towing it for 3 hours like that with the boat on. I would call the dealer and send him the pics first. A new axel would need to be sent to the dealer and that takes a while as they are down south somewhere.I had to take my boat off to get it to a dealer. What year is your trailer?
April 29, 2012 at 10:07 pm #1063685I will empty it out. The fenders are welded onto the trailer so not much I can do other than take it easy going there. The dealer I want to take it to is about 40 minuets away, but I have a closer one that is about 1/2 that so they may get the nod due to location.
April 29, 2012 at 10:11 pm #1063687Hopefully they will warranty it and if they do make sure you check your tires for wear from this as I made them replace my tires that got scraped up to. I had no problems with them getting everything replaced for free as they seemed to know they had a bad batch of these and my trailer was only a year old.
April 30, 2012 at 12:43 am #1063733Your spring(if one side) or springs are shot. If mechanically inclined, measure and order new from etrailer. I have replaced mine twice. The last time I went with the 4800# springs instead of the 3600# recommended. No problems since.
If needing to trailer somewhere, jack up the trailer frame and place block of wood between frame and axle and tie down. This will get you somewhere without blowing the tire.April 30, 2012 at 12:46 pm #1032863It looks as though both torsion axels have failed. I have seen it a few times but its not all that common.
Like mentioned get it to a dealer asap. It will probably take a little while to get some parts so the sooner the better. You will NOT want to pull that trailer any more than you have to.
May 1, 2012 at 6:38 pm #1064449Well, good news. EZ Loader is the manufacturer of the trailer and they are replacing the entire axel even though it is out of warranty. The dealer I bought the boat from is putting the new one on at no charge. Bad thing is it will take a week to 10 days to get the new axel.

All in all, not a bad outcome. Glad to hear the manufacturer is taking good care of you.
May 2, 2012 at 10:47 pm #1065017Sounds like a great dealer and a stand up company. They both stepped up. A week to 10 day turn around isn’t all bad. Could of been that long plus out of your own pocket.
May 15, 2012 at 3:31 am #1068230Went to put my boat in the water on Sunday and as I looked back in the drivers side mirror I noticed my trailer tire with no tread on about 1/4 of the inside of the tire. Looked as if I had plenty of clearance between the tire and fender. Will put my spare on but now the question is do I have a bad tire?…bad axle?…spindle?…Love my 2009 WX 1880 but saw trailer problems coming from day 1. Built basically the same as the single axle I had on my Fisher boat and had to replace fenders etc on that one. Will call the great staff at SBC tomorrow but not sure there is a whole lot they can do…
