When my dad and I had our HPDI’s we ran nothing but Yamaha 2-M. Then ring free and stabile in the gas. Both motors had 250-300hrs on them and not one problem of any kind.

To be technical if you run anything but yama-lube 2-m they can void your warrenty. I havent heard of them doing it before but they can.

With that said, if you find the right place and get it in bulk its not to pricey. Right now we are selling 2-m for $25 a gal.

If it was me, I would run 2-m with ring free in every tank!!!

Thanks guys. I have been using 2-M but after looking at merc oil with all the deferent types for fuel injection and 2-M doesent say it’s for fuel injected motors I didn’t know if 2-M was the best choice.

Can you site the proof to that please? Considering Eric works in a Yamaha shop I’d be inclined to believe him.

Magnuson-Moss act of 1975. A manufacturer cannot require the use a specific product (in this case, oil) to maintain the warranty unless that product (again, the oil) is provided without charge by the manufacturer.

The manufacturer can set standards for a product that needs to be used to maintain the warranty. It isn’t hard to find an oil that lives up to these standards and using any oil that does will not impact the warranty in any way.

I had no idea. That’s a great post James. Thanks for that info. That should be a sticky on here. And every other fishing, hunting forum.

So any time you see that the manufacturer requires the use of their oil or spark plugs, etc or it will void it’s warranty because that statement is BS or a bold faced lie.

I can’t recall reading a warranty for any product, car, truck, boat motor… toaster oven…. that has a warranty that requires the use of a specific proprietary product when that item is serviced at the exclusion of others that meet the same specification. I’m not saying they don’t exist.. but if they do Magnuson requires that product be supplied by the manufacturer to the consumer at no cost. Cut. Dried.

James is correct in his statement. I should have broke it down a little farther stating that a similar product has to meet their specs. A fair amount of people dont understand the “specs” of oil or whatnot so therefore the generalization of you must use their oil gets thrown out there.

With that said, of course they strongly recommend their oil, (which I personally would stick with) but if you can find something that has better specs than their oil you are free to use it. Sometimes that comes at a higher price though also.

    Sorry for the confusion

I don’t see how you could have broke it down any further. Your initial statement was wrong.

Like I said, it should have been clearer,

    Along the lines of

To be technical if you run anything but yama-lube 2-m, OR EQUIVILANT SPECS, they can void your warrenty. I havent heard of them doing it before but they can.
