I bout a used 2007 WX 1880 and I have a few issues with it. First is the rear bait well re-circulation pump. Each spring when I put it in the water for the first time and run the circulation pump ether the housing is cracked and leaks water or the pump motor is stuck and I blow a fuse. Twice I had to ether replace the motor or the housing. Looks like the pump holds water in it over the winter. Maybe to much of a loop in the circulation pump hose preventing water to drain after boat is out of the water. Anyone have this problem? Other thing is the rear livewell has an oxygenateor on it I think? ( a round thing with wires to it ) that does not do anything when the livewell is full of water. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do about this? Thanks

Doesn’t sound like you are running RV antifreeze through the system before storing, might want to give that a try.

Gallon of rv antifreeze in the wells and re-circ them also I pour a gallon or so under the floor and hit the bilge. Not sure about the oxygenator…

Those hold water and freeze and break.Had it happen twice on a Skeeter before I figured it out. Im guessing your oxygenator looks real white and built up with calcium and needs to be cleaned. Take it out and soak it in CLR for a few days and scub it with a nylon brush. Put quick connects on the wires while you are at it because these need to be cleaned often. I guess they make a new one that is supposed to stay cleaner but never tried them.

Does anyone know………..is this a WX1880 issue? Is anyone with other models (newer models) seeing these problems? I never winterize my boats and didn’t intend on winterizing the WX1850. However I’d hate to have broken piping in the spring.

I had this happen on a 2050 Skeeter. All you have to do is make sure it is blow out or put some RV anti freeze in the line. Just turning on the pump still leaves just enough water in the line to freeze and break the plastic neck on the pump.

Gotcha. I know a number of boats including a couple Skeeters and a Ranger I’ve seen on Pool 4 during the months of Dec. Jan, and March.

2006 – 1880 here. I’ve run mine every winter since I bought it (when navagable and/or a decent day over 32+/- Degrees – daytime temp) and I never winterize it. I’ve never run antifreeze through it and I’ve never had any of these particular issues. I park it in an unheated garage when not in use. Yes,… I’ve replaced a couple of pumps over the years, but I don’t believe it’s due to freezing like suggested here.

I will admit though, I’ve certainly thought about this issue – and wondered

I know my livewell valves (both) have never closed tight since I bought it, so water does come back into the tanks whether I want it to or not. I’ve thought about sticking corks in the drain-holes from the outside to deal with this, but I haven’t tried it yet. I just make sure things get drained good before I hit the road to and from the water. I also NEVER run a pump in the winter.

My back-up for colder days is my buddy’s flat-bottom. A guy always needs a good winter-beater option for those -32/bad ice days.

I called my dealer last year about my ’10 1850. They told me that the pumps/system was maintenece free and that I didn’t need to do anything to prepare it for winter storage. One year of storage under my belt and no issues.
