My open water season is far from over. However I felt that this would be a good time to provide an assessment of my season in the WX1850.
I figure so far I’ve spent 400 (approx 8 hours of fishing for every 1 hour of main motor time) hours in the boat this season.
My only real quandary is why there is no storage on the starboard side gunwale. Not that it’s needed. I currently have more than enough storage. However more is always nice.
The ride is exceptional and everything I expected. This boat has been in everything from calm waters to legitimate 6’ers with an occasional rouge 8’er. It handled all conditions without fail.
There was some on plane and porpoising issues once the boat was loaded the way I wanted it. However after some prop testing and the addition of the SE Sport 300 Hydrofoil those issues are 99.9% resolved.
With any luck I’ll be able to put a significant amount of fall fishing hours on the boat in the next 2 months.
Fuel usage is right in line with what the Yamaha Performance Bulletins state. I burn approx 15 GPH at WOT (6000 RPMS). Top speed (real world) is around 45 MPH. That’s tourney load (gear, gas and 2 guys). I have seen 47.2 MPH under ideal conditions.
Overall I’m 99% satisfied. If this boat were to sink or burn in a garage fire I’d be at Skeeter Boat Center’s door step ready to order another one.
