MX1825 vs WX1850 better trolling setup?

I have looked at the MX1825 and WX1850. What rig would be better for a trolling setup. I will be fishing all kinds of water from small lakes, rivers to big water. Has anyone put time in trolling in a MX1825 yet? I would love to hear how it is working out.

    Thanks for any responces.

There will be pros and cons of both, but I would say personally the MX is very troller friendly.

The extra room in the cockpit area in the MX is quite nice when there are 2 or 3 people working a trolling spread and also when trying to net or handle a fish.
Another positive with the MX is the keel. The way the keel is you have GREAT tracking ability at slow speeds and you get very little wind pushing you around.

As far as the 1850 or WX series goes, you still have enough room in the cockpit to fish but you also have the extra room up front for 2 people, and 4 rods.

Both boats will handle the water you are planning on fishing, and do well.

I would look hard at the layouts and see what boat would fit you better.

Also Jami Ritter has spent a fair amount of time trolling out of his MX and will hopefully chime in here soon!

I haven’t been in Jami’s MX1825 yet. However I’ve spent many hours trolling in my WX1850. I was blown away with how well it tracks at low speed and doesn’t get blown around at all by the winds.

I came from a Crestliner which tracked liked a drunk on a bicycle. I hated trying to keep that boat straight and on target. So the MX1825 may very well be 100X better than the WX1850. However you won’t be dissatisfied with either.

The MX tracks far better than the 1850 making it easier to handle in situations with a cross wind or when trying to run a tight break line. Others already mentioned the big cockpit so I won’t pile on there but the 1825 does feel like a MUCH bigger boat than 18′ 4″. Add in the Rod Holster that will hold 6-8 trolling rods up to 12 FEET in length without breaking them down for storage and my two cents points to the 1825.

Don’t overlook the ride n drives as a way to test both boats side by side. Or call Skeeter Boat Center for a private test drive. They’ll be happy to accommodate. I’m certain they’d let you bring a couple rods and take them both for a trolling test spin to see which one you like best.

Thats funny! I have to agree with you though. I nick named my Crestliner “the beach ball”, any little breeze would knock you off course.

Either model will do a great job for you. The MX1825 has Skeeter’s newest deep-V keel design which will eventually be rolled out to all WX and additional MX models. The accentuated keel design was made to improve boat tracking when motor trolling or when on bow mount and casting.

There are advantages to both. If you spend most of your time fishing on small to mid sized lakes and rivers, I’d seriously consider the MX1825.

If you spend a significant amount of time in heavy water, the WX1850 has a deeper cockpit and bigger bow, so you might feel more secure in it. The WX Series is designed specifically for big water capability. The WX Series also has rear jump seats which can be used to to create cockpit flexibility. Many trollers kick out the rear fishing chair on the WX1850 and us the jump seat instead. This gives you more room in the back of the boat when fishing 3 people. The WX is also a more family friendly boat. The WX can take long rods, just not in lockable storage. If you spend the majority of your time fishing with 4 people, you might want to consider the WX1900 with 200hpdi or MX with 200 hpdi as well.

The MX1825 is wider with rear live well. If you are fishing 3 or more you will have to bring the 3rd seat and move it to front deck when trolling to create room. Both are great choices. It’s really going to depend on your family situation, where you fish most often, and what you value in a boat.

Eric; will the extra room keep me from hearing the circus music?

If you put us 3 in the boat again on a bite like that I dont think anything could keep us from hearing the circus music!! I dont mind hearing the circus music in those cases though, I will take that anytime
