Traxtech tracks on WX2100

I’m getting a “new to me” WX2100 in a couple weeks. There are currently 60″ rear rails on the boat that are mounted to close to the back cleat’s to add small tracks to mount downriggers. I’m thinking about taking off the 60″ rails and adding 30″ rails in the front two holes and then putting a 24″ track where the back of the 60″ rail use to be. Another thought is to add 72″ traxtech tracks full length on each gunwale. I don’t have the boat yet, so I’m not sure if the gunwale on the WX2100 is straight and will accept one long track, or slightly curved like my WX1850 was. Has anyone put on full length tracks, or did you have to put on 2 or 3 section’s on each side of the boat? Pictures?
    Thanks for your help.

I put 72″ trexstech tracks on a 2050. I think the 2100 is a little flatter on the top then mine. I will get some pictures this weekend or email me [email protected].

    Tom,

You have a few options of what you could do.

First option, add a 30″ rail in the front 2 holes of what used to be the 60″ rail. The holes are very very close and you may need to widen one hole but they should both cover. You could than add your 30″ trax or smaller to cover up the rear hole from the 60″ rail.

Second option, you could leave the 60″ rail and mount a 6″ or MAYBE a 12″ trax behind the rear cleat.

Third option, would be if you are only looking to put one down rigger on you could mount it right behind the jump seat on the drivers side.

Fourth option, would be to completely remove the 60″ rail and plug the holes with a body plug and put a 60″ trax over top of that. It will just barely cover the holes from the rail.

A few things to consider that I have ran into so far.
One being when we put on a 60″ trax on a 2100 we had to use hard rubber washers under the trax in order for the trax to sit level. There is just enough of a curve to the top cap where if you tighten it down without anything underneath it will bow the inside and outside and make it difficult to slide things through there.
Another thing to think about is I do not believe a 72″ trax will fit flat between the console and the rear cleat. I cant say this for sure as I have never tried to install one but if I remember right while measuring there just wasnt quite enough room.
Where ever you decide to put them be sure that you can reach the under side some how if you plan on through bolting it. The trax guy has told me that if there is a place you cant get to the underside and really want it there you can use #14 screws and some type of marine grade adhesive and you will be fine.

There are a lot of options and things to consider before drilling holes!!!

    Tom

I spent the last 4 days trolling lakers out of a 2100 using a combination of downriggers and the “triple tree” rod holders on each side of the boat and LOVED them. We ran two riggers and 6 boards (3 per side) and the Trax system worked amazingly well. At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the triple tree but after the first hour of getting used to it… man, I’m sold! I really liked how I could keep all rods vertical in one holder versus stringing them out along the side of the boat. We never had a single tangle and I really liked that I could tip the holders on the tree upward and run with the rods in the tubes to the next spot versus laying the rods in the bottom of the boat where they’re all but guaranteed to get tangled or banged around.

I’ll post some pics tonight if you’re interested.

    Hi James,
I’d like to see some pictures. It sounds like it would be a great set-up for trolling here on Lake Michigan. The only problem I could see, is forgetting to take them down when I back the boat into the garage. That could make a mess.
    Thanks,

Holler if you have any questions. I’m really just getting my feet wet with this product but after a couple trips under my belt with it I’m very, very impressed.

I really like the Big Jon vertical rod trees. You just pull the pin and the tree comes out but the base stays in the track plus they are a little longer. I take them down when running.

Not sure if this is useful information or not. I’ve never seen a WX2100 and just came across this post, so I thought I’d share. But when I wanted to put tracks on my fiberglass boat with rounded gunwales about 6 years ago, I found little help (that I liked), so I came up with my own method.

I cut a piece of marine starboard the size of the track, then routed that out to fit snug on the curve of the gunwale. It was a bit more complicated than that if I remember…all I had was a table saw and hand sander. I used plaster of paris to create a template of the curve, then I worked slowly to match it. When done I bolted down the track (I used an aluminum plate on the back side, under the gunwale). Fits solid with no play. I use 4 riggers, 2 with long booms, and 12lbs rigger balls and fish Lk Michigan 2-3 times a year with no issues. Including some pretty rough seas.

When I contacted the track company for suggestions on how to mount, they suggested using a marine adhesive that dries hard and non-flexible, but I wasn’t too keen on a permanent mounting because I didn’t know if I’d like the lay out I did (one small track near the stern that holds one rigger, then a longer track in middle that holds one rigger and two rod holders).

I included a pic. It is not the finished version, but you can get an idea.

    That’s a nice custom install.
