saw this on another web site, this guy replaced the floor of his rod storage with lexan so that he could see his battery’s and the lite’s on his charger. thinking of doing this on my wx 1950 . What do you guy’s think?

Novel Idea, but I think I like the carpeted look better….Just my opinion though….

Looks good. But what if you get corrosion stuff on the rods, reels and fishing line? Or any odors? my 2 cents.

The Guy Drilled some vent holes through the lexan and if you have any issues you would atleast know sooner then later if you can do a visual easier then if you had to take all your stuff out first just to get the door out they old way.. They only diff between my boat is i dont have tube’s maybe lay some carpeting down first and then you could lift a corner or something up to see…I have almost 40 rod’s in my locker so it can be a pain in the rear to look under it every time…..

There is still a top cover that comes down on hinges that is carpeted correct? If so I think its a great idea. I would like to be able to do a visual inspection rather than removing everything to look. Seems to be a time save in the end. If it is not covered by the carpeted top piece I would not do it.

yes your top would still be there this is just the floor under your rod holder where the battery’s and charger are.

I wouldn’t replace the whole carpeted floor with lexan or whatever is being used but being able to see the charger lights is a good idea. A 3″ hole positioned above the charger and then covered with a clear material would be sufficient I would think. I wouldn’t want to give up the entire carpeted area because the plastic would be noisy with the reel handles banging on it with every wave and the hard surface of the plastic would be less forgiving on the reels than the carpeted surface.

Overall though… I like the concept.

+1….I’ve already made a peep hole I can see the charger lights through, but a larger one with a piece of lexan would be great. Whole thing might be overkill, IMO, not to mention the possible rattling / banging. But, with 40 rods in there, I’m guessing they don’t move around too much.

having owned that brand of boat in the past, the carpeted floor is too thick and actually blocks access to the bottom row of rod tubes. his solution gives both visibility and better access to the rod tubes.
since the fit of the floor is better in Skeeters, adding visibility to the charger can be achieved with a smaller hole in the carpeted floor.
