Trailering WX1850

Question for you guys. I’m seeing scuff marks where the bow meets the bow roller. Am I not winching the boat up far enough? The bow U-Bolt isn’t touching the roller in this image. Is that my problem?

It’s not scratching the hull yet. However a weekend of trailering on dirt roads has allowed dust to get between the roller and hull and scuffed up the wax job. Should I be loading the boat all the way until the U-Bolt touches the roller? Any ideas?

I changed out the yellow bow roller for the softer black version. Seemed to help me. Disadvantage I would guess is roller might not last as long.

I have the same problem. For some reason dirt and dust just sticks to that yellow roller. Swapping it out for another type of roller might be worth a try. I have sanded it down a couple times to clean the dirt off and it builds up again in no time.

Them yellow rollers are junk, whoever designed them needs a kick in the They are a nice way to scratch a new boat. My dad had the black style on on his 05′ Skeeter and there wasnt a scuff on the bow. My 06′ had the yellow style and it was all scratched up, I just figured the guy before me sucked at driving haha, but after cleaning and buffing and then to have it come right back I knew it was the roller. Would have changed if I had the boat. I have been meaning to change mine out, maybe this weekend along with all the other chores!

Skeeter20. Is there a roller you recommend?

Yeah the old school black ones. They seem to be more like rubber then plastic. I have tried everything to make these yellow ones not leave marks on the bow but its impossible. New roller will be put on this weekend!

Here is one like I am putting on my boat.

When I worked at Cabelas I had a lot of skeeter guys come in looking for Bow Guards …These will prevent the scratches!

Calvin that will help for when trailering but mine actually had scratches all the way up to the nose. When loading and unloading the roller doesn’t spin much and drags along the boat. I can usually wipe off peeled plastic that can off the roller onto the boat.

Corey, did you measure to make sure that is the right size? I have no idea what size to look for, but if thats the right one I’ll probably just order one off that link.

I have been waxing my boat and cleaning the roller regularly, but its still frustrating to see the scratches.

Ever thought about not power loading right to the roller? Just leaving short and crank it up maybe a 1/2 of a crank or 1 full crank? More specifically on the steep landings?

I have never power loaded up to the roller. I am always about a good 1-2′ away from the roller. I never back the trailer in far to even power load to the roller if I tried. After I get on the trailer I get the strap hooked, crank till its too tight to go any further then back in another couple feet to get all the way up.

Mine is a 4″ I would think yours is the same. Shorelander still makes the rubber style like Skeeter used to use.

Overtons has them if you cant find one:

Might wanna get the end caps too, I havent yet but I think thats what is doing the most damage when loading, then the roller for when its on the trailer. Looks like Wade has rubber end caps and thats why he isnt getting the long scratches?

Then it looks like a new black roller once a year is needed!

My dads last one was on his since 05′ and is still on there. But even if I did I would spend $10 a yr to keep scratches off a $70K boat

I don’t think the way its loaded would make much difference. Whether I winch or power load, the roller still is touching the boat for atleast 4-6 inches and making the scratches. Some steep landings like Denny’s (Winnie) I still can’t figure out how to load it efficiently without having to crank it most of the way while touching the roller.

spend the 40 bucks at cabelas to get that bow protector. put one above the eye hook and one below, scratches are now elimated from the roller as the roller would never hit the boat, only that piece.
