The wait is finally over! After two years of product development and input from a group of anglers and engineers absolutely dedicated to the idea that as a team we could build “the ultimate 18′ fishing boat”… here it is!

The result is the 1825 MX

    * Click to Enlarge Photos *

    MX1825 Specs:

    • Length 18’4”

    • Beam 97”

    Available Configurations:

    • Dual console with walk through windshield

    • Dual console with wind screens

    • Single Console with wind screens

With a 97″ beam the first thing that should jump off the screen is that this is a very spacious and wide open 18′ fiberglass fishing boat!

Time after time we heard from anglers “why is so much space dedicated to the bow of most boats where ONE angler fishes and the cockpit and rear deck, where multiple anglers will fish, made so small?!

As you can see in these photos, the front deck on the 1825 MX offers plenty of room for the angler fishing from the bow without making the front deck so large that available space is compromised in the rest of the boat.

This critical design choice meant the anglers fishing in the cockpit or at the rear of the boat had room to spare.

The cockpit can fit and fish multiple anglers at the same time and the rear deck, which is nearly 40″ deep, offers anglers that want to cast the space needed to do so in comfort and safety.

But it takes more than a wide open layout to make a great fishing boat. Often the “make or break” for a fishing boat comes down to availability of gear and rod storage… and this 18′ fishing boat has both is spades!

First, we’ll walk through the livewells / baitwells.

The 1825 MX offers two livewells / baitwells.

In front of the driver’s console on the front deck you’ll find a smaller livewell / baitwell / cooler. This well is primarily designed for bait keeping duty but it is also big enough to keep smaller fish destined for the pan in good shape while you’re out on the water.

At the rear of the boat you’ll find the larger livewell / baitwell. At 50″ in length and 13″ wide on the INSIDE this is a swimming pool for your catch!

Now if you’re like me, rod storage in a boat is one of my top priorities when making a boat purchase decision. If I can’t keep my rods safe and secure while trailering or have convenient access to those same rods when I need them on the water… I’m just not going to be happy.

So here’s how this was approached. We knew we wanted center rod storage BUT we didn’t want to let the center rod storage throw off the rest of the layout by making it bigger than needed.

So we hopped in as many boats as guys would allow and we took a survey on the number of rods stored in a center rod locker and the average lengths. What we found was very few one piece rods over 7′ were to be found. We found a lot of two piece trolling rods that were broken down in the locker… but if we have to break down our rods to store them they’re not exactly convenient now are they?

So the engineers made the center rod storage 7′ long in the 1825 MX (note center rod storage box opening to the left of the console in the SECOND photo in this thread) as it was apparent that a 7′ center rod locker was plenty long for the majority of rods used based on our survey data.

But we weren’t done at this point as we still wanted to find a way to store long rods… and I do mean LOOONG rods, without breaking them down. And we wanted to provide the same safety and security for these longs rods that the rods in the center rod storage enjoyed.

    Meet the Rod Holster!

Lockable and secure storage for LONG spinning rods, trolling rods… even muskie rods! How long? 12 feet or more! Nobody’s had a rod long enough to find out! Yet.

The rods in this shot are all trolling rods with line counters or muskie rods with big casting reels. Stored without breaking them down.

And if you need to store some two piece rods or other gear that you use less often, there’s storage on the port side behind the driver.

How’s that for raising the bar on intelligent and useful storage options in a 18′ boat?!

    Still not impressed?

Did we mention the two spacious bow deck storage compartments Skeeter is known for?

    Additional Storage:

    • Optional under console shelving

    • Big glove box in passenger console

    • Batteries and 3 Bank charger are stored in floor rather than under front deck

    • Two Rear Deck storage compartments

Great looking Boat!! Love the wider casting platform in the back. Nice 50 inch livewell which appears to also have an option to hold a bait container.

From a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke to the 200 Yamaha HPDI is a big range in performance.

Look forward to seeing one in person.

My guess is Skeeter will have one at the Fall IDO Get Together on Rainy Lake.

James, what’s the main difference from the wx series?

Love the idea of the rod holster. You hinted that there is also center rod storage, but never actually state it. Is there center storage along with the holster?

    In a nutshell…

The WX hulls are deeper than the MX hulls. IF you want the biggest, baddest big water boat you can find, go with the WX. If you fish small to medium sized water most often (do know this 18′ MX will have a GREAT ride when compared to other similarly sized boats) and need a boat that is set up to fish a variety of techniques, the MX is the choice that is likely more appropriate.

    Some specific differences…

The 1825 MX is very wide for its length. At 97″ beam you have to go up to a 1990 to find a boat in the Skeeter line that is wider.

The WX floor sits higher from the water line whereas the MX hulls sit lower to the water line allowing an angler to more easily fish casting presentations.

The WX line has a higher and more narrow rear platform with jump seats whereas the MX has a much lower and wider platform with seat bases for pedestals. The MX was designed for the anglers that like to stand on the back decks and wants room to move around while lipping a bass or working a figure 8 for muskies. You can stand on the back deck of a WX but you’re well above the water.

Absolutely there’s center rod storage. For rods up to 7.5′ long. My guess is you should be able to store 12 – 15 rods in the center + the rods in the Rod Holster on the side.

I’ll go back and clarify the original posting so others aren’t left wondering as well.

I’m not sure what I can or can’t talk about but I’m pretty sure I can say there will be more MX models coming at some point. This year? Not likely.

You might want to include the following… Honey, right now is a great time to have a used boat for sale. The number of good quality, used boats on the market is low and prices are running high. Ironically, manufacturers of new boats having been dropping prices.

    Who knows? Might help.

Dave at Skeeter Boat Center stated 7 – 10 days for finalized pricing. It sounds like the pricing for the 1825 MX with the 150 is still going to be right around $30k. Right now the holdup is deciding on what additional equipment, if any, is going to be added as standard equipment.

Very nice guys. Very wide, lots of deck space for casting, plenty of smart rod storage. Did you guys make that boat just for me? Once again that looks very nice. Looking forward to getting to ride in one.

For anyone interested, I’ll have a film crew out pointing cameras at this boat at the Ride N Drives over the weekend and the plan is to have video back here to share by Wednesday AM of next week. So if anyone wants to see one in action but can’t make the Ride N Drives… we should be able to fill in some of the blanks a bit until you can see the 1825 MX in person.

One of the things we haven’t really talked about is hull design. Mostly because it is so hard to “show” or describe changes in a hull. It is best experienced.

But it is worth mentioning anyway… the hull on the 1825 MX is like no other in the Skeeter line.

The goal was to design a hull that tracked straight and true in current or wind, with minimal correction or input from the driver. Where most boat hulls are built with top speed and rough water ride in mind ONLY we believed we could retain all the speed and smooth ride AND make significant improvement in the way this hull fished at low speeds when the angler is trolling or controlling the boat with the bow mount.

One of the first things you’ll notice if you see this boat on the trailer is the accentuated keel and sharp reverse chine. The plan was to make sure the boat tracked well and resisted being pushed off course by a cross wind and these modifications to the hull worked incredibly well. The driver spends less time fighting the boat and more time fishing with less effort.

I know this is one “feature” that people will have to feel with the seat of their pants to appreciate but, trust me, you’ll know it when you do.

Love the boat. So I see they put a keel guard on the demo will that be standard or an option. Also Because It’s more of a medium lake or river boat does it draft less then the Wx boats? I will show this to my partner we need a river boat…His wife’s gonna kill me…..lol

A keel guard would be optional but given the level of protection they offer I’d highly recommend one. I know SBC sells the Hamby keel protector for $399/installed so I’d have a hard time not putting one on a new boat.

As for the Hamby installed on this 1825 MX… the factory did that just to be sure you could get a guard on the accentuated keel. All reports point to “it fits good!”

Regarding the draft on this boat… the specs sheet says 13″.

Alright the boat looks sweet James. But let’s get down to the details because as we all know that is where the devil is at. I assume the standard features will include a bow trollling motor and two trolling batteries along with a 3-bank on-board charger, yes? It would be nice to have stainless steel rails in the cockpit as well. I can’t imagine anyone not wanting them. This package has to come in at 30K or else, quite frankly, it just won’t compete with the Ranger 1850 Angler on price or resale value. I would love to hear your thoughts.
    Thanks

    No, it doesn’t.

Look back about 5 posts or so.

“Dave at Skeeter Boat Center stated 7 – 10 days for finalized pricing. It sounds like the pricing for the 1825 MX with the 150 is still going to be right around $30k. Right now the holdup is deciding on what additional equipment, if any, is going to be added as standard equipment. ”

This is key >>> Right now the holdup is deciding on what additional equipment, if any, is going to be added as standard equipment.

In 7 – 10 days we’ll be able to shed light on those devilish details. In the mean time it sounds like you need to start price shopping and test driving Rangers so you can make an apples to apples comparison once everything is finalized with the 1825 MX.

If you’re in the area, come on down to the Pool 4 Ride N Drive on Sunday. I’d be happy to show you the boat and get you some wheel time.
