How many of you guys are running a ram stablizer mount on your terrovas? I don’t have front rails on my wx1850 and the head of my 80# terrova is quite a ways off the gunnel. I didn’t think it was necessary if you keep the depth collar in the store position. Now I’ve been told I do? Any thoughts? Thanks

Ram Mount For Terrova?

Considering the price of the I-Pilot and the fact that the control head is in a precarious place over the gunwale. I ordered a RAM mount for my Terrova. Of course I ordered bow rails as well so I wouldn’t have to drill holes in the Gunwale.
April 26, 2011 at 10:53 pm #960907I use one to keep it from bouncing and loosening up the
mount puck. I like not having to move the collar and the
peace of mind knowing it can’t ever self deploy.I use a long arm on my RAM stabilizer.
April 26, 2011 at 11:03 pm #960910I just put one on. It is a nice investment to protect your expensive trolling motor. You can get by without one, but if it gets hit and quits working you will wish you would have had one. No fun justifying another $1500 for a trolling motor to the wife either…
April 26, 2011 at 11:03 pm #960912Two options you may have, one being mount it to the top of the gunnal or to the floor. If it is right over the top of the gunnal that will be your only option. There is a long arm Ram mount that will work for that if it is a ways off the gunnal if not the short arm will work.
It will require 3 maybe 4 holes on the top of the gunnal though.
The other option would be to add front rails and mount it off of the rail.
Either way it can be done!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto…
April 27, 2011 at 12:01 am #960943I did the same in the front of my Ranger… I put three holes in the fiberglass and counter sunk them…no cracks in the gel coat and my terrova is as solid as a rock !!

April 27, 2011 at 1:02 am #960972I dont care how you do it but you should get one on there! I had my terrova self deploy a couple times. Screwed up the deploy on the motor a little. Good thing it was still in warrenty!
arklite881southPosts: 5660April 27, 2011 at 1:22 am #960983I would definately have a RAM mount to support the head of your Terrova. Here is a pic of mine. In all honesty it is probably not a bad idea to add those front rails also.
April 27, 2011 at 1:39 am #960992$50-100 is pretty cheap to protect your Trolling motor head from splitting open after hitting a good wave. Not to mention to keep things from getting loose. -Mark
April 27, 2011 at 1:47 am #960997Do you know if this was all one kit or several pieces put together?
April 27, 2011 at 11:02 am #961079I have a tough time finding it on Ram Mounts website but I bought it all in one at Reeds. I am sure all the other big stores have it as well.

X2 Its is a package deal
April 27, 2011 at 12:28 pm #961093Depending which way you are going to mount it it will come in one or two packages.
For a SHORT gunnal or floor mount you will need a RAM-108
For a LONG gunnal or floor mount you will need a RAM-108-D
For a rail mount application you will need a RAM-108 and also a RAM-233

I “feel” better when it’s not bouncing.
Also, I want to be able to tighten my boat cover down pretty good and the stabilizer stops the cover from pushing the trolling motor head down and putting pressure on the shaft. I had an issue years ago with the base getting loose, something that’s not happened since I started using the stabilizers.
I picked mine up at Cabelas a couple weeks ago, but it wasn’t with the other RAM mounts – it was with the trolling motor supplies.April 27, 2011 at 3:36 pm #961179FYI….take note of how far your opening the ram mount, I have loosened the ram too far and springs, screws, bolts, and they don’t float. Just a heads up.

You aren’t the only one who’s done this Cal.April 27, 2011 at 4:17 pm #961200Quote:

Ditto to this!
Watched my set-up sink into the lake one the second outing after installationApril 27, 2011 at 5:39 pm #961241I ordered mine from Wade at Jolly Ann Marine..
Just told him what I was looking for… and I got exactly what I needed…April 28, 2011 at 1:23 pm #961494Could you drill a hole in the arm and put a zip tie (or something similar) to hold it in the boat? It seems to me that you could.

There are 7 parts to the double socket arm portion.
Two arm halves, one bolt, one flat ss washer, one rubber washer, one spring, and one knob/handle.
I don’t let anyone touch mine without a crash course on using two hands to loosen it and remove the TM from it.
