    Hello all.

Just picked up a new to me 2011 wx 1850. had the boat out a couple times to a small lake close to my house and everything seeemed great. I then went to fill it up with gas again not knowing how much I had used and not trusting the gauges. Well, it was still basically full and all I did was top it off I think. Now I am out on a larger lake and in some couple foot waves and the gas smell in the cockpit is terrible. Would make you sick if you sat in it too long. I am chalking this up to overfilling the tanks hopefully but want to run this by you guys and see what you think. let me know if you have any other questions if I missed anything.

I’d look in the owner’s manual or online to see exactly how much the tank holds on that boat. Compare that with your gauge and the amount you are putting in at the pump. I am guessing the overflow and its smell has just saturated the boat for the time being.

So many people treat their boats like they would an automobile and end up overflowing at the gas stations I’ve been at. I fill my boat extremely slow and try to estimate about how many gallons I need to add to top it off. There’s nothing worse than starting your day off with a gallon of non-ethanol unleaded fuel in the boat’s interior.

I agree with buckybadger. I never top off my gas tank and fill in the am. Honestly sometimes I flip the key on and check it. I have overfilled my boat more than once and the gas smell sucks with family in the boat.

sounds good. sounds like i can probably chalk it up to overfilling the boat.

Not so fast, I believe there was/is an issue with the fuel lines or tanks on that model of boat. Call Skeeter Boat Center and talk to them. I know of a couple of different individuals who had issues but I can’t remember if that is the exact model of boat.

I cant say I have seen a common issue with the fuel tanks or fill on those boats. There is a number of things that can cause that issue from the vent all the way to the tank.
My suggestion would be the run the fuel down some, air out the boat with all compartments open and try filling again but not topping it off and see if it does it again.

Very hard to track something like this down unless there is an actual leak somewhere.

Assuming all clamps are tight down below,I’m betting on a leaky fitting. Topping off should spill gas out if the vent on the exterior of the boat and shouldn’t result in raw fuel/fumes in the sump.

All right guys, My dealer recommended dumping some hot water around the fuel tanks and letting it drain out. I took the boat out to a small lake about 30 minutes away and ran it for while. Was a small chop and some bumps on the road some enough to shake things up a little bit. Had no fuel smells at all. Our kid even ate supper on the floor and i sat with him and not once did I get any sort of fuel smell. So guess we will run it for a while to get the fuel down on our next big trip, fill it, and see if not overfilling solves the issue. thanks for all the suggestions I will update in a week or two.

Finally figured out it was the Vent Fitting on the Rear tank of the boat. can see some fuel sitting on top of the tank right below the fitting. going to make some calls today.
