Skeeter Owners?

I’ve posted a lot of question regarding Fish/Ski family boats recently – but starting to see a lot of late 2000’s Skeeters pop up on Marketplace, etc. – Specifically the SL19 series is catching my eye. I think I actually like the layout and seats better than a Reatta. Plus it looks like a good, solid glass boat, but perhaps more entry level? In general they seem to be priced much cheaper than similar boats (like Reatta’s) of the same time period (like 8-10 grand cheaper). And most I’ve seen seem to have 4-stroke Yamaha 150 power plants. Anybody own one of these or have any experience with Skeeter? I know it’s all about the motor – but any feedback on layout, ride, storage, non motor issues, etc? I assume the 150 is a minimum transom rating?

What is it that you are looking for in a fish/ski type boat? Are you looking for a deep v hull or a bass hull? The Skeeter SL190s are more akin to the Nitro z19 sports, a shallow, bass type hull that has the two captains chairs and a row of 3 bench type seats behind with an elevated rear casting platform. I think of the reata as more of a deep v walleye type platform with the two captains chairs, two removable chairs, and then two jump seats. In my opinion they are two very different platforms and are useful for very different styles of fishing. I went through this a few years ago and settled on a 2013 Nitro 290 sport with a 200 verado. I’d be happy to talk through anything. pm me if you have specific questions or want to schedule a time to test one out.

The SL 190 is more of a Bass style hull while the SL1900 is the deep v hull.
Which may or may not make a difference to you. The early Reatas also had the shallow hull option as well.

Good info, Dean! I didn’t know about the sl1900! that looks like a neat setup.

That’s a good call and you have a point, luttes. They are a bit shallower of a hull than a Reatta. I’ve never inspected one in-person but I see what you’re getting at. To me it looks more like a hybrid of bass and deep v hull – and I think that would suit my needs fine. I’m looking for a fishing-first platform – I’m a multi-species angler but I wont be spending a lot of time on big water. I also need a layout that my wife and two sons and me can spend time on and be comfortable, removable bow cushions, comfortable seats, bimini top, etc. Would occasionally pull a tube or skier. Needs to be a good family boat. The mid-to-late 2000’s Crestliner Superhawks somewhat fit this bill, but I like the glass hull the SL19 offers and the interior is much nicer. I think I need to see one up close to see how shallow the hull really is.

I’m guessing the big difference in price is really the absence of the second row of seats -similar to a bass boat. A tighter layout than a Reatta – which honestly would be just fine for my family unit, I have a budget and am in no hurry.

And yes, the 1900s are a deeper hull – with the same seating arrangement, more spendy but still seem more affordable then other options (this is all relative considering the ridiculous used-boat market). I’m going to spend some more time studying/researching these. Kinda liking what I’m seeing.
